San Jose State to start Fall Series Today

CoreyValineSanJoseState San Jose, Calif. – The 2009 Western Athletic Conference regular-season champion San Jose State University baseball program is set to contest its annual fall intrasquad event, the Spartan World Series, beginning this Friday, November 13.

The Blue and Gold teams were drafted on Monday, November 9. Corey Valine, a second-team All-WAC selection at third base as a junior, will captain the Spartan Gold. Karson Klauer, the only other fourth-year senior on the current roster of 38 players, is the Spartan Blue captain, and is joined by younger brother Kolton, a junior walk-on candidate who spent the past two seasons at Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif.

UC Riverside releases 2010 Schedule

UCRiversideSchedulePic The UC Riverside 2010 baseball schedule, released today by Head Coach Doug Smith, continues the Highlanders tradition of playing one of the most difficult schedules in the nation (see chart below). It features 13 games against 2009 NCAA Tournament participants including a three-game home series to open Big West Conference play against Cal Poly (Apr. 1-3).

Austin Peay signs Nine to NLI’s

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Facing the loss of 11 seniors, including four pitchers, following the upcoming 2010 campaign, Austin Peay State University head baseball coach Gary McClure and his coaching staff had plenty of work to do on the recruiting trail. That work paid off, Wednesday, as nine players signed a letter of intent on the first day of the signing period.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 68 Rob Brantly (UC-Riverside)

RobertBrantly The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 68 in our countdown with UC-Riverside sophomore catcher Rob Brantly. He is a 6’3 195 pound catcher out of Temecula Valley California where he went to Chapparal High School. He picked up four letters in high school including being named 2007-08 First-Team All-League and 2008 First-Team All-Valley and Second-Team All-County. He was picked in the 2008 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals with the 1378 overall selection but decided to attend UC-Riverside.

Richmond releases 2010 Schedule

MattZielinskiRichmond UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Third-year head coach Mark McQueen has announced the University of Richmond’s 2010 baseball schedule, with the Spiders set to play seven NCAA Regional teams, two College World Series participants, along with 29 home games at historic Pitt Field.

The Spiders’ aggressive 56-game schedule features seven teams that reached the Regionals of the 2009 NCAA Tournament – Virginia, North Carolina, George Mason, Ohio State, Xavier, Oklahoma and Jacksonville. The Cavaliers and the Tar Heels each reached the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

Mississippi State releases 2010 Schedule

MississippiStateStadium STARKVILLE, Miss. – A slate of 33 games at Dudy Noble Field featuring 17 different opponents highlights a challenge-filled 56-game Mississippi State University baseball schedule announced this week by MSU head baseball coach John Cohen.

Mississippi State plays 28 of its 56 games and squares off against 10 teams that advanced to the 2009 NCAA Tournament, including 15 games against teams that reached the NCAA Super Regionals and eight matchups with teams that competed in the NCAA College World Series.

Pepperdine to start Fall Series Today

PepperdineBaseball MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine Baseball’s annual fall tradition – the Blue and Orange World Series – begins Thursday at Eddy D. Field Stadium at 1:15 p.m. The three-game set marks the end of the Waves’ fall season, which began back in September will individual workouts followed by October’s team practices and intrasquads.

Game’s two and three will take place Saturday and Sunday with an approximate start time of 1 p.m.

Lou Lamoriello inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame

Lamoriello Headshot Former Providence College baseball and hockey captain Lou Lamoriello was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame over the past weekend for his great leadership with the New Jersey Devils. The Boston Globe did an excellent feature on him including showing how great of a mentor and coach he was on the ice.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 69 Michael Olt (UConn)

MikeOlt The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 69 in our countdown with UConn junior infielder Michael Olt. He is a 6’2 190 pound shortstop/third baseman from Branford High School in Branford Connecticut. He was a four year letter winner in high school where he hit .475 while holding the school record with 115 hits. He picked up All-State and All-League honors in three of the seasons. He was also a leader during Legion play bringing his team to the 2005 and 2007 State and Regional Championship titles. He was also selected in 2007 to the Legion World Series team for his accomplishments.
