Two-day Boot Camp Builds Unity for BYU Baseball

BYUPic “Above the Best,” was the name of a two-day boot camp completed this weekend by BYU’s Baseball team.

The boot camp was under the direction of Captain Dante Fontenot of the Utah National Guard and Captain Jeremy Tannahill, Commander of D Company 2nd Battalion of the 211th Aviation Regiment and a Maintenance Test Pilot.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 59 Ryan Carpenter (Gonzaga)

RyanCarpenterGonzaga The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 59 in our countdown with Gonzaga LHP Ryan Carpenter. He is a 6-5 215 pound lefty from Peoria Arizona where he attended Cactus High School. He picked up four letters there as he went 10-2 with a 1.20 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 73 innings pitched his senior season also tossed two no-hitters and two one-hitters his senior season. He was named to All-State first team and West Valley League Player of the Year. He was selected in the 2008 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 21st round but decided to head to Gonzaga.

High Point to host Fall Series starting Sunday

Williard Stadium High Point The High Point University baseball team will conclude the fall practice season with the 2009 Purple and Black World Series Sunday Nov. 22-Tuesday Nov. 24 at Williard Stadium.

The intrasquad series will get underway on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. The second game will be held Monday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. and the final game of the series will be on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. All three contests will be played at Williard Stadium.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 60 Troy Channing (St. Mary’s)

TroyChanningStMary's The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 60 in our countdown with St. Mary’s sophomore infielder Troy Channing. He is from Pleasanton California where he attended Foothill High School where he picked up four letters. He had a monster senior season which saw him hit .475 going 29-for-61, knocking in 25 runs and scoring 28 runs. In his 29 hits, he had 16 which went for extra bases with five doubles, four triples and seven homers. He was named First Team All-East Bay, First Team All-League, and team MVP after that monster season. The Seattle Mariners selected him in the 40th round but he decided to continue his baseball career with St. Mary’s.

PEORIA, Ill. - The Bradley Baseball program took advantage of the early signing period and will welcome seven new Braves to the squad in 2010-11. Of the seven new additions to the program, four are pitchers, three are junior college players and all seven hail from the Land of Lincoln.

UCLA Fall Series Game 3 Recap

TrevorBauerUCLA LOS ANGELES – Sophomore right-hander Trevor Bauer (2-0) struck out five batters in four scoreless frames, allowing one hit and two walks, to lead the Blue Team past the Gold Team, 5-0, in a three-game sweep of the Blue-Gold World Series at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Friday evening (seven innings).

Bauer faced three batters over the minimum through four innings. The native of Valencia, Calif., worked out of a one-out jam with runners in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth, recording a strikeout and inducing a groundout to finish his final fall outing. Bauer also picked up the victory for the Blue Team in Game 1 on Monday.

East Carolina extends Billy Godwin through 2014 season

BillyGodwinECU GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina University has announced an extension of head baseball coach Billy Godwin’s contract, which will secure his position through the 2014 season. The new agreement, approved Friday by the University’s Board of Trustees and announced by ECU Director of Athletics Terry Holland, will add three years to his existing contract that was set to expire June 30, 2011.

Breaking News: Arizona State’s Murphy resigns

PatMurphyASU Mark Rafferty who contributes to this site and runs PitchForkNation.com has informed me that Arizona State baseball coach Pat Murphy resigned effective immediately according to a press release from ASU. Murphy was set to enter his 16th season with the Sun Devils program. He led the Sun Devils to the College World Series four times while being a dominant team in the Pac-10 conference winning it the last three seasons. Manhattan releases 2010 Schedule

KevinLeightonManhattan RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Fifth year head baseball coach Kevin Leighton revealed Manhattan’s schedule for the 2010 campaign. The slate features contests with powers from the ACC, BIG EAST, Conference USA and Colonial Athletic Association, in addition to the always challenging MAAC lineup. The Jaspers open the season Feb. 26-28 at the University of Miami, a 2009 NCAA Tournament participant.

The Citadel releases 2010 Schedule

CitadelRelease Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team released their 2010 schedule today. The Bulldogs will host 34 games at Riley Park this season, including their first seven contests of the year.

"This is a very demanding and exciting challenge for this young ballclub," said Head Coach Fred Jordan. The schedule features five teams that participated in the NCAA Tournament a season ago with South Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Kansas State, Elon and Georgia Southern on the slate.

Toby Gerhart has options on the diamond and gridiron

TobyGerhardt Toby Gerhart has a tough decision coming his way. A star baseball player for Stanford, Gerhart is also making a lot of noise as a running back for the Cardinal football team this season. Gerhart ranks near the top in touchdowns and rushing yards so far this season, with whispers about a chance at the Heisman, but he has also finished the 2009 spring as one of Stanford’s top baseball players.
