LSU Baseball Presented with Championship Rings

PaulMainieriLSU The LSU Tigers baseball program held a special ceremony on early Saturday evening when each member of the 2009 NCAA Championship squad received their championship ring. The Tigers had an outstanding run in the NCAA Tournament as they went 10-1 with the only loss coming in Game 2 of the CWS Championship series. You can check out the full press release below.

New Mexico to start Fall Series on Tuesday

NewMexicoPhoto ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–The University of New Mexico baseball team will host its annual Cherry-Silver Series this Tuesday through Saturday at Lobo Field. The Lobos will play a five game series with each game lasting seven innings. There is a lot at stake for Lobos on both sides as the culmination of the series will determine the final roster for the 2010 season. Head coach Ray Birmingham will closely observe the action and pick the squad that will make a run at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Championship.

UNO adds Biesecker to Coaching Staff

UNOPhoto NEW ORLEANS – Scott Biesecker has been named associate head baseball coach at the University of New Orleans, it was announced on Friday.

It was a familiar hire for UNO head coach Bruce Peddie, who worked with Biesecker for nine years while Peddie was the head coach at Division II Shippensburg.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 79 Scott Woodward (Coastal Carolina)

ScottWoodward The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 79 in our countdown with Coastal Carolina infielder/outfielder Scott Woodward. He is from Markle Indiana and attended Norwell High School where he led the team to a state championship as a senior. He finished his senior season with a .454 average including 60 runs, seven doubles, 24 runs-batted-in and 30 stolen bases. He was also outstanding on the mound going a perfect 8-0 with a 1.93 ERA. He was named First-Team All-Indiana selection as well as an All-Conference and an All-Area performer. He was also named to the Rawlings/Perfect Game Preseason Central Region All-High School Senior Team.

CBB Visit: Texas State vs Texas Fall Scrimmage

TylerSibleyTexasState Both Texas State and Texas wrapped up their fall practice schedule with a 14 inning scrimmage between the two clubs. The scrimmage is used to give the players a chance to get a look at some different pitchers besides their teammates during fall practice.

Quinnipiac baseball and tennis visits Fair Haven School

QuinnipiacBobcats NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University baseball and tennis team’s visited the Fair Haven School in New Haven, Conn. to read to several groups of young students. Quinnipiac assistant athletic director of academic support Lyneene Richardson coordinated the event, while tennis head coach Mike Quitko, baseball head coach Dan Gooley organized the Quinnipiac student-athletes for the trip.

Dan Callahan Named 2009 MVC Most Courageous Award Winner

DanCallahanSIU ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner Doug Elgin announced Thursday that Dan Callahan, head baseball coach at Southern Illinois University, has been selected as the 2009 recipient of the league’s Most Courageous Award.

The Missouri Valley Conference presents the Most Courageous Award to a past or present student-athlete, coach or university administrator who demonstrates unusual courage in the face of personal illness, adversity or tragedy and whose behavior reflects honor on the institution or the Conference. Individuals receiving the award might also have performed heroic feats or otherwise inspired others.

Fresno State reads to Elementary Kids
