Cleveland State to open 2009 Fall Series Today

JimmyCowhyClevelandState CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State baseball team will begin its 2009 Fall World Series with a single game on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 4:30 p.m. at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio.

The pitching match-up features Joey Gradney for the Green Team against Jimmy Cowhy for the Grey squad.

UMES to start Fall Series on Friday

BryanChaikowskyUMES PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Head coach Will Gardner and the UMES baseball team announced the dates for the Hawks’ annual Maroon-Grey World Series Tuesday.

The series is slated to begin Nov. 6 and run through Nov. 13. The best-of-seven event is designed to cap off the non-traditional workout period for UMES. The members of each side are chosen by team captains.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi start Fall Ball Today

TexasAMCCFallSeries The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team will cap a productive fall season of workouts with the Islander Fall World Series this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Chapman Field. Thursday’s game begins at 3 p.m., Friday’s contest is at 2 p.m. and Saturday is at noon.

"It has been an overly competitive fall," said Islander head coach Scott Malone. "For a lack of a better word or phrase, the series is the cherry on top. It a chance for us to see guys compete for that chance to start, battle for a roster, etc.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 76 Kyle Parker (Clemson)

KyleParkerClemsonHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 76 in our countdown with Clemson junior outfielder Kyle Parker. He is from Jacksonville Florida and Bartram Trail High School where he played four years of baseball and football. He was named All-State and All-County as a junior as he skipped his senior season of baseball to enroll in the winter of 2008 as he accepted a football scholarship to play for the Tigers.

Gonzaga releases 2010 Schedule

MarkMachtolfGonzaga SPOKANE, Wash. - The defending West Coast Conference champion Gonzaga University baseball team has announced its 2010 schedule. The Bulldogs 2010 slate features four teams that appeared in last season’s NCAA Tournament along with a number of matchups against teams from the Big 12, Big West and Pacific-10 Conferences.

"We are really looking forward to getting out, playing one of the nation’s toughest schedules and building off of last year’s success," commented 2009 WCC Coach of the Year Mark Machtolf. "Once again we have put together a very challenging schedule that will help us prepare for an always competitive WCC schedule later in the season."

South Florida start Fall Series on Thursday

SouthFloridaFallBall TAMPA – The University of South Florida baseball team will wrap up its 2009 fall season with annual Fall World Series beginning on Thursday, Nov. 5 and wrapping up on Saturday Nov. 7.

"Our Fall World Series is a great way to end our fall practice schedule," said Bulls head coach Lelo Prado. "The players are excited to play and they are ready to go and finish it off the right way."

Rhode Island releases 2010 Schedule

JimFosterURI KINGSTON, R.I. – The Rhode Island baseball program has released its 2010 schedule, which is highlighted by a trip to Virginia for a three-game series against the Cavaliers, who participated in the 2009 College World Series.

After a record-breaking season in 2009 – where the Rams set new single-season marks in wins, hits, runs, doubles, home runs and fielding percentage – the 2010 squad will look to pick up where it left off, returning all but three starters (two pitchers, one infielder) from a year ago.

Ten Stories about Western Kentucky

Top 100 Countdown: Number 77 Andy Wilkins (Arkansas)

AndyWilkinsHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 77 in our countdown with Arkansas junior first baseman Andy Wilkins. He is from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and attended Broken Arrow High School. He had an outstanding high school career as a senior batted .538 (63 for 117) with 18 doubles, a triple and 12 home runs. He also scored 52 runs and drove in 53 his final year with a .635 on-base percentage and slugged 1.017. He also hit .496 as a junior with a school record 17 home runs and 16 doubles while scoring 30 runs and driving in 60. He finished the season with a 1.109 slugging and .519 on-base percentage. He was named a Louisville Slugger High School All-American twice and rated as the 11th best prospect out of Oklahoma by Baseball America. The Texas Rangers selected him in the 25th round but could not come to terms with him making him head to Fayetteville Arkansas to play for the Razorbacks.
