The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today with number 55 in our countdown with San Diego junior RHP Kyle Blair. He is from from Monte Sereno, California where he attended Los Gatos High School. In his junior year of high school, Blair had an outstanding record of 13-1 with an ERA of 0.16 allowing only two earned runs in 89.2 innings of work. His senior season saw him go 9-2 with a 0.31 ERA and racking up 147 strikeouts, This type of performance was good enough to be selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round, but he turned down the money by honoring his commitment to the San Diego program.
In 2008, Kyle Blair stepped right into the best rotation in the country, grabbing the number 3 spot behind first round pick Brian Matusz and fourth round pick Josh Romanski. He made 15 appearances out of the pen with 12 starts. His final record was 8-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 74.2 innings of work, with an eye-popping K/9 of 11.97. He spent the summer of 2008 with the Chatham A’s of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He only made four appearances on the year with three starts. He had a 1-1 record with a 4.22 ERA in only 10 innings of work. He continued his strong strikeout rate by striking out 14 batters in those innings.
Blair’s sophomore season in 2008 saw him have a 3-2 record including two saves with an ERA of 3.13 in ten appearances (eight starts). He continued his strong strikeout ration with 1.14 per inning pitched. He also held opponents to a team low .225 batting average against. He spent the summer of 2009 back in the Cape Cod Baseball League this year with the Brewster Whitecaps. He finished the summer with a 3-1 record including a complete game with a 1.42 ERA in eight starts. He struggled this summer with his control as he walked 30 batters in 44.1 innings but did strike out 51. He was named to the All-Star game and the All-League squad at the end of the season. Baseball America rated him the 13th best player in the CCBL after the summer was over.

How can you have Blair as low as number 55 when he is projected to go in the first round according to every source imaginable?
I have seen him pitch on multiple occasions and he fails to impress me. Does it mean anything? No, but just my opinion and a few people I have spoken to about him.
As you all know, you speak to two different people and they will see different things in each player.
