West Hartford, CT- University of Hartford baseball coach Jeff Calcaterra announced the 2010 schedule, which includes 50 games over 35 dates. The Hawks are scheduled to play on Fiondella Field a total of 29 times in 2010.

“As the winter workouts progress, the coaches and players are looking forward to the start of the 2010 season,” said Calcaterra. “The coaching staff believes that the 2010 non-conference schedule will provide the mental and physical challenges necessary to prepare our players for a run at a conference championship."

Highlighting the 2010 schedule are three games against teams that played in the regionals of the 2009 Men’s College World Series; Boston College, Marist and Dartmouth. The first of those meetings comes against the Eagles on March 23. The hawks will then take on Marist and host Dartmouth in the middle of the conference season.

The Hawks also have scheduled dates with all six of the other Division I programs in the state. “This year’s schedule will provide a competitive measuring stick against the majority of the Division I programs in the Northeast including 12 games against the six other Division I baseball programs in the state of Connecticut," continued Calcaterra. The Hawks will play a total of 12 games against in-state rivals. Hartford and Yale will compete in a four-game series, while the Hawks will play a doubleheader against Sacred Heart. Hartford also has two scheduled dates against Connecticut and Central Connecticut.

The Hawks open up the 2010 schedule against one of those in-state rivals, Central Connecticut, in New Britain on Wednesday, March 10. Coach Calcaterra and his squad will then travel south for a three-game set against Central Florida, the only games outside of the Northeast Region.

Hartford will welcome another in-state rival, Yale, for the home opener with double headers on March 19 and 20. The final tune-up prior to opening up America East action will be a road game against the Bryant Bulldogs on April 2.

The Hawks will play a 21-game conference schedule in a newly adopted format. The six-team league is split into two divisions, the first consisting of Hartford, Albany and Maine, while Binghamton, Stony Brook and UMBC make up the second division.

Each team will play its in-division conference opponents a total of six games, a three-game series at home and a three-game series on the road. Against the out of division opponents, the Hawks will play a single weekend four-game series.

The Hawks conference opener will come against one their division foes, Albany with a doubleheader on April 17 and a single game scheduled for April 18. The final two weekends of the regular season the Hawks will play on the road. The first will be a four-game set against Stony Brook, while the second will be a three-game series with the Albany Great Danes.

The top four teams overall, by winning percentage, in conference play will advance to the 2010 America East Championship, to be played at the highest seeded team. The tournament is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 26.
