EIU adds seven for spring of ’11

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Striving to build on two Ohio Valley Conference championships the last two years, head coach Jim Schmitz has announced Eastern Illinois baseball’s seven-player recruiting class set to join the program for the 2011 season.

Stetson adds two for 2011

DeLand, Fla. – Stetson head coach Pete Dunn has announced the final two pieces to this year’s early signing class bringing the overall total to seven. Cameron Griffin from Naples, Florida and Lee Cheneler out of Longwood, Florida will be joining the Hatters for the 2010-11 school year.

Florida State releases 2010-2011 Signing Class

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State baseball and head coach Mike Martin announced the signing of 10 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent as of November 16, 2009. The 2010-11 class features seven players from the state of Florida, two from Georgia and one from Connecticut.

The signees include C/1B Eric Arce, OF Michael Arencibia, 3B/RHP Kaleb Cowart, OF Jose Dore, OF Ben Gamel, LHP Evan Geist, LHP Connor Nolan, INF Sean O’Brien, RHP Adam Simmons and RHP Colby Sims.

Indiana adds Nine for 2010-2011 Class

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Head Coach Tracy Smith and the Indiana baseball staff have signed nine players to continue their baseball careers at IU beginning in the 2010-11 season, the program announced today. Blair Betts (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive), Matt Dearden (Newberry, Fla./Gainesville), Dustin DeMuth (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte), Joey DeNato (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines), Ty Downing (Bowling Green, Ky./Greenwood), Eric Kartman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead), Brian Korte (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), Chad Martin (Lexington, Ky./Vincennes University) and Reed Reznicek (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) have all signed on to join the Hoosier family.

Ole Miss adds Two Arms for 2011

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss baseball team added a pair of pitchers expected to provide immediate contributions to the program in 2011 with the signing of Mike Mayers and Bobby Wahl, head coach Mike Bianco has announced.

The two are the latest announced signees for the Rebels’ 2010 class and join four Mississippians in the signing class. Ole Miss announced the signing of Ryan Bolden, Casey Greene, Austin Hartzog and Jimel Judon last week.

Georgia adds four for 2011

ATHENS—Pitcher Drew Cisco, corner infielder Caleb Bryson, pitcher James Garner and junior college infielder Jonathan Hester are the first four members of Georgia’s latest recruiting class after signing national letters-of-intent to attend UGA, Bulldog coach David Perno announced Monday.

FGCU adds 8 for 2010-2011 season

FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU baseball head coach Dave Tollett announced today that his program has received National Letters of Intent from eight student-athletes, as well as a commitment from Adam Sargent (Palmetto Bay, Fla.). Tyler Anderson (Cocoa, Fla.), Brandon Bednar (Stuart, Fla.), Brandon Bixler (Oviedo, Fla.), Alex Diaz (Miami, Fla.), Sean Dwyer (Leesburg, Fla.), Jake Foley (Port Charlotte, Fla.), Ricky Knapp (Port Charlotte, Fla.) and Alex Norris (Clearwater, Fla.) signed NLI’s with the Eagles. All nine will join the Eagles as freshmen for the 2010-11 season.

Chase Mallard signs with UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The UAB baseball program has announced the signing of Cullman, Ala., pitcher Chase Mallard to a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period.

Mallard, a right-hander, is entering his senior season at Cullman High School this coming spring, and he will enroll at UAB for the 2010-11 academic year. He comes from the same high school program as current Blazer junior pitcher Blake Huddleston.

Blake Myers heads to Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis head baseball coach Daron Schoenrock announced the signing of St. Benedict of Auburndale lefthander Blake Myers today.

The first local signee, Meyer joins Cody Geyer, Ethan Gross and Bryan Picou on Memphis 2010 singing class.

"One of the quality left-handed pitchers we’ll count on to fill some pitching staff voids left due to graduation, Blake brings outstanding upside, competitiveness and athleticism to the mound," said Schoenrock. "He’ll be counted on to contribute early and has been a Tiger fan his whole life."

Southern Miss adds two for 2011

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball program and head coach Scott Berry announced today the addition of two prep athletes for the 2011 season.

"We are very excited about both of these young men," head coach Scott Berry said. "We really feel like they can both contribute in our program right away."

The Golden Eagles added to their youth with outfielder Joe Martin and a left-handed pitcher Josh Rogers.

Kent State adds five for 2011

KENT, Ohio – Kent State head baseball coach Scott Stricklin announced the signing of five baseball players during on Monday (Nov. 16) during the early signing period.

Mike Birkbeck and Scott Daeley did another outstanding job with this recruiting class,” said Stricklin about his two assistant coaches. “We knew this class would be relatively small because we only have four seniors on our roster, but what we lack in quantity we made up for with quality.”

The five signees consist of four Ohio high school seniors and one junior college transfer from Florida. They include OF/C Andrew Jones (Doylestown, Ohio/Central Florida Community College/Wadsworth), RHP Josh Pierce (Avon, Ohio/Avon), RHP Dan Slavik (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville), OF TJ Sutton (North Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) and INF Derek Toadvine (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge).

Oregon State announces 12 for 2010-2011 Signing Class

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State baseball head coach Pat Casey announced Monday that the Beavers have signed 12 student-athletes to National Letters Of Intent to join the club for the 2011 season.

The signed players are: pitchers Dan Child (Rocklin, Calif.), Adam Duke (Spanish Fork, Utah) and Scott Schultz (Gig Harbor, Wash.), utility players Cole Baylis (Los Altos, Calif), Cameron Booser (Milton, Wash.), Brandon Drury (Grants Pass, Ore.), Ian Kendall (Ashland, Ore.), Brian Pointer (Reno, Nev.) and Tom Zarosinski (Lake Oswego, Ore.), outfielder/pitcher Ben Holmes-Wetzler (Clackamas, Ore.), infielder/catcher Jake Rodriguez (Elk Grove, Calif.) and outfielder Drew Vettleson (Kitsap, Wash.).

South Alabama adds Four for 2011 season

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama baseball head coach Steve Kittrell announced the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Monday. All four will join the Jaguar program for the 2011 baseball season.

The first four players to sign are split evenly, with two junior college pitchers and two high school position players.

Left-handed pitchers Michael Carden (Cottondale, Ala./Shelton State CC) and Josh Wirnsberger (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Shelton State CC) will both join the Jags after two-year stints at Shelton State Community College. The pair also played on the same high school team at Paul W. Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Nevada adds Four for 2010-2011 season

Reno, Nev. – The University of Nevada head baseball coach Gary Powers has inked four high school seniors to national letters of intent to play for the Wolf Pack in 2011.  The four include shortstop Jake Schu, pitcher Andrew Millner, infielder Loren Gardner-Young and outfielder Curtis Frisbie who are in their senior year.

"This is a great start to our 2010 recruiting class," said Powers.  "Each of these student athletes is going to be able to contribute to our team immediately and we are very excited about this group!"

San Diego inks 10 for 2011 Season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of San Diego head baseball coach Rich Hill has announced the singing of 10 players to National Letters of Intent to play baseball at USD beginning in the 2011 season. Singing NLI’s to play at USD are Kris Bryant (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza HS), Dylan Covey (Pasadena, Calif./Maranatha HS), Danny Hawksley (Rancho San Diego, Calif./Valhalla HS), Marcus Littlewood (St. George, Utah/ Pineview HS), Max MacNabb (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS), Griffin Murphy (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley HS), Paul Paez (Baldwin Park, Calif./ Bishop Amat HS), Kellen Sweeney (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson HS), Michael Wagner (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS) and Tony Wolters (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista HS).

Santa Clara signs three for 2011 Season

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University athletics department, along with men’s baseball Head Coach Mark O’Brien, announced the signing of three athletes to National Letters of Intent. The incoming class is expected to attend Santa Clara in the Fall 2010 quarter and play for the Broncos in the Spring of 2011.

The signees include two of California’s top ranked left-handed pitchers, Patrick Conroy and Powell Fansler. Conroy was named the 2009 Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) `Pitcher of the Year.’ The 6-foot 4-inch senior at Sir Francis Drake High School is ranked No. 3 among California lefties according to Perfect Game. Fansler, who stands at 6-foot-5, was 6-0 with a 1.12 ERA as a sophomore at Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks.
