Louisiana Student Athletes to read to Elementary Students

FROM CBB NEWS SOURCE

LouisianaReadtoStudents LAFAYETTE – University of Louisiana student-athletes from all sports will be participating in a bus tour to promote literacy and give back to their former elementary schools on November 16 and 17, 2009.  While riding on the Ragin’ Cajuns-wrapped Calco bus, student-athletes will be visiting elementary schools in the Acadiana area and reading Jady Regard’s book Born to Be a Ragin’ Cajun to the elementary school students.

Schools being visited this semester include: St. Bernard Elementary ( Breaux Bridge), Carencro Catholic, Carencro Heights, Westminster Christian Academy (Opelousas), St. Michael School (Crowley), North Crowley Elementary School, South Crowley Elementary School, Ridge Elementary School, Cecil Picard/Maurice Elementary School, Mount Carmel Elementary School (Abbeville), Magnolia Elementary School (New Iberia), and Pesson Elementary School (New Iberia).  These schools were selected because current student-athletes attended these schools and wanted to give back to their alma mater. In the spring semester, Lafayette Parish schools will be visited.

Student-athletes hope that the tour will spark greater interest in reading, leadership and athletics, encouraging elementary students to develop a well-balanced lifestyle that includes equal emphasis on academics and physical activity.

"Reading in Red" Bus Tour is organized by the UL Lafayette Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
