MercerCountyWaterfrontPark LAWRENCEVILLE—Rider University will serve as host for the 2011 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Tournament, it was announced by the MAAC.

The four-team, double elimination tournament will be held at Waterfront Park, home of the Trenton Thunder, for the third time. Rider and Waterfront Park hosted the 2008 and 2009 MAAC Championships.

“Mercer County is pleased to join Rider University and the Trenton Thunder in hosting the 2011 MAAC Baseball Championship tournament and to once again be home to a showcase of some of the finest collegiate baseball in America,” said Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes.

“It is exciting to have the opportunity to potentially play at home in front of the home crowd,” said Rider Head Coach Barry Davis, who led his Broncs to the MAAC Title in 2008 and advanced to the NCAA Regional. “We have played well at Waterfront and we hope we put ourselves in position to compete for the 2011 MAAC Championship. They put on a first class tournament in 2008 and 2009 and I am sure they will do the same in 2011.”

“Waterfront Park is an outstanding venue for the top baseball teams in the MAAC to compete for a championship,” said Rider Director of Athletics Don Harnum. “Rider Athletics is very grateful to Mercer County, the MCSEC, and the Trenton Thunder for enthusiastically working with us to put together a successful bid.”

The 2010 MAAC Baseball Tournament will be hosted by Marist College and held at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, NY for the 11th time in 13 years.

Rider finished in fourth place in the MAAC in 2009, qualifying for the MAAC Tournament. Rider has played in four MAAC Championship title games. Rider won the MAAC South in 1998, when the league played in two divisions.

Rider won conference baseball titles in 2008, 1996, 1995, 1994, 1992, 1989, 1987, 1986, 1985 and 1984.
