AsherHeadShot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 71 in our countdown with The Citadel junior RHP Asher Wojciechowski. He is from Beaufort South Carolina where he attended Beaufort High School. He picked up three letters in baseball and picked up All-Region honors for his accomplishments.

He made an immediate impact in the Bulldogs program during the 2008 season by appearing in 14 games (12 starts) accumulating a 5-1 record with a 4.50 ERA in 76 innings. He struggled with his control as he walked 40 batters, had 10 wild pitches, and hit six batters while striking out 78 batters. He also held opponents to a team low .243 batting average against.

Wojchiechowski continued to be a stalwart in the Bulldogs pitching staff in 2009 as he went 3-3 with a 4.39 ERA in his 12 starts including two complete games. He continued to struggle with his control as he walked 34 batters with six wild pitches, and seven hit batters in his 69.2 innings of work. He did hold opponents to a .235 batting average against. He played the summer with the USA Collegiate National Team where he appeared in five games (3 starts) as he went 2-1 with a 2.18 ERA. He held opponents to a .153 batting average against. Baseball America rated him the 12th best prospect on the USA Collegiate National Team.

We believe that Asher will be able to cut down on his walks and become a much better all around pitcher during the 2010 season. He should be one of the better pitchers in the Southern Conference this season.

Brian, is this intended to be a Top 100 PLAYER countdown or a Top 100 pitcher countdown? You do realize that so far well over 75% of your selections have been pitchers, and you’re almost a third done with the countdown?

It has been heavy with pitchers early on.

I coached Asher when he was a wee little lad in the junior program up here in Sturgis, Michigan, but now he’s a monster! Wait until his control and strength both reach their pinnacle. I think we might be watching this guy on T.V. for quite some time.

I haven’t had a chance to see Asher pitch in person but came across some scouting video of him which impressed me. You can check it out at the link below.
