Northwestern State to hold Fall World Series starting Today

RyanZimmermanNSU NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State Demon baseball team will conclude its fall workouts with the annual Fall World Series beginning on Friday at 7:30 at Brown-Stroud Field.

The three-game series will continue with a 7 p.m. start on Saturday followed by a 2 o’clock first pitch on Sunday.

All games are open to the public and are free of charge.

Demon assistant coaches Mike Jaworski and Marty Dewees will serve as the managers for each squad that has been divided up among the NSU roster.

Pitching match-ups for game one will pit newcomer Luke Irvine of Team Wolfpack (Jaworski’s team) again Ryan Zimmerman (3-3, 5.35 ERA in 2009) for Team Dirtbags (Dewees’ team).

Wolfpack starter Trevor Geist (2-0, 6.41 in 2009) will start game two for the Wolfpack and will go up against Dirtbag starter Heath Hennigan (redshirt in ’09).  And game three will have Brett Fredieu (0-2, 10.23 in ’09) of the Wolfpack going up against a pitcher yet to be determined.

Headlining the position players for the Wolfpack are returners Trent Grondin (.324, 1 HR, 14 RBI in ’09) and Tyler Baisley (.259-4-18) along with closer Chad Sheppard (4-1, 2.34, 10 saves) and Michael Ocampo (0-0, 5.06).

For the Dirtbags, Eric DeBlanc (.333-2-12) heads the list of returnees along with Colin Bear (.278-2-20) and Miles Parsons (.231-0-9).  The pitching staff includes returner Andrew Plotkin (3-0, 5.90) in addition to Zimmerman and Hennigan.

Returners Dan Meyer and Dustin Northcott will serve as assistant coaches for the Dirtbags while Chase Lyles will assist the Wolfpack.
