Baseball cut at St. Louis Junior Colleges

OldGlove The St. Louis Community College district announced that seven out of the 22 sports offered in the 2009-2010 school year will be cut at the end of the year. This includes two baseball programs being cut at the Forest Park and Florissant Valley campuses. It is always a tough day for any student-athlete to see the program ending. Lets hope these student-athletes can find a place to play next year.

Appalachin State to host Fall Series this weekend

MattAndress BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University baseball holds its annual Fall World Series this weekend at Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium. First-pitch times for the three-game, intrasquad series are set for 3 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. The games are open to the public and admission is free.

Rider to hold World Series on Friday

RiderCoach The sixth annual Rider University Cranberry and Black World Series will be played on Friday, October 23, at 4:00 pm on the Sonny Pittaro Field.

The Cranberry and Black Series, a best three out of five series of three-inning games, brings an official end to the Rider fall baseball season.

The Black team is led by junior pitcher Mike Thomas (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston), who was 5-3 last season with a 3.88 earned run average. Thomas has compiled 11 wins already in just two seasons at Rider.

Alabama to scrimmage this Weekend

BamaScrimmagePhoto TUSCALOOSA, Ala – The Alabama baseball team will play three more scrimmages this weekend at Sewell-Thomas Stadium as the Crimson Tide concludes its fourth week of fall practice.

The team is scheduled to play a nine-inning scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 23 at 2:15 p.m. and then host a pair of six-inning scrimmages on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. and Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.  The three scrimmages are free and open to the public.

CBB Top 100 Countdown: Number 89 Sam Gaviglio (Oregon State)

SamGaviglioheadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 89 in our countdown with Oregon State sophomore RHP Sam Gaviglio. He is a 6’1 170 pound righthander out of Ashland High School in Ashland Oregon. He picked up three letters in high school playing under Don Senestrero. In his senior season, he went a perfect 13-0 with a 0.50 ERA including 108 strikeouts while picking up 5A Pitcher of the Year award. The Tampa Bay Rays selected him in the 40th round but decided to attend Oregon State to play under Pat Casey.

Kansas Baseball Unveils 2010 Schedule

Nevada to hold Silver and Blue Series on Friday

NevadaBaseball Reno, Nev. – The University of Nevada baseball team will conclude fall practice over the next week by playing its annual Silver & Blue Series at Peccole Park starting on Friday morning at 8:45 a.m.  The series is free and open to the public.  Next week’s games are set for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and will conclude on Friday with first pitch slated for 8:45 a.m. each day.

Kansas State releases 2010 Slate

K-State 2010 Schedule MANHATTAN, Kan. – A 13-game homestand during the month of March and 29 games against 2009 NCAA Regional competition highlight Kansas State’s slate as head coach Brad Hill released the Wildcats’ 2010 baseball schedule on Thursday.

Kansas State will play 28 home games, while the Wildcats face 10 squads that advanced to the previous year’s NCAA Tournament for the third-straight season. Of the Cats’ 29 games against 2009 NCAA Regional participants, 14 come within the final month of the regular season.

Wichita State releases 2010 Slate

WichitaStateStephenson WICHITA, Kan. – The 2010 Wichita State baseball schedule features games with traditional national powers and conference champions along with 30 home games, head coach Gene Stephenson announced Oct. 22.

“Once again we have a great schedule for the fans and players alike,” Stephenson said.  “It will be very challenging for this team.  I think we have an especially challenging road schedule.  It will require us to grow up in a hurry to be successful.  I think we’ll have a much better team overall, but we need to prove it on the field in the spring.  With the improvements at our facility, it should be an exciting season.”

Navy releases 2010 Schedule

PaulKostacopoulosNavy ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy baseball head coach Paul Kostacopoulos announced the team’s 51-game schedule for the 2010 season on Thursday morning. Among the 51 contests, 32 are scheduled to take place within the confines of Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.

Navy’s 2010 schedule features 26 games against teams that advanced to their conference postseason tournament and six contests against squads that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

Wake Forest releases 2010 Schedule

TomWalterWakeForest WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A season-opening, 13-game homestand and 30 games against teams that advanced to the 2009 NCAA Tournament highlight the 2010 Wake Forest baseball schedule, as announced by head coach Tom Walter on Thursday.

"Anytime you have a schedule where 30 of your 56 games are against NCAA Tournament participants from the year before, it’s obviously a very competitive schedule," Walter said. "Last year, the team had a lot of success in the non-league games. This year the key is to be more competitive in ACC games, with the first goal always being to make the ACC Tournament and the second goal being an NCAA Regional berth."
