CBB Top 100 Countdown: Number 87 Wes Cunningham (Murray State)

WesCunninghamHeadShot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 87 in our countdown with Murray State senior first baseman/DH Wes Cunningham. He is from Louisville Kentucky where he attended Eastern High School where he picked up four letters playing for John Morris. He helped lead them to a district championship and a 32-7 record in his final season.

ULM kicks off Fall Practice

ULMBaseballPractice MONROE, La.—Coming off its best back-to-back seasons since 2000 and 2001, the ULM baseball team has begun its preparations for the 2010 season as the Warhawks are a week into fall practice.

“Things are going well so far,” head coach Jeff Schexnaider said. “We have a great group of seniors who are leading by example on the field. We are excited about the new guys that have come in this season. Not only are they talented baseball players, but they are also extremely hard workers. We have a lot of depth this season, which has provided competition at a lot of positions.”

Wake Forest to starts Fall Series on Sunday

MikeMurrayWake WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest baseball team will close its 2009 fall practice with the Black & Gold World Series, which begins Sunday at Noon at Wake Forest Baseball Park.

All games of the series will be played at Wake Forest Baseball Park and are free and open to the public.

CBB Top 100 Countdown: Number 88 Matt Perry (Holy Cross)

perry_matt The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 88 in our countdown with Holy Cross senior third baseman Matt Perry. He is 6’2 and 190 pounds out of St. Sebastian’s High School and from Sudbury Massachusetts. He was a three sport athlete (Cross-Country, Basketball, and Baseball) in high school picking up letters in each sport from his sophomore through his senior campaigns. He was a two-time member of ISL All-League team.

Oregon State wraps up Fall Practice on Saturday

AndrewSusacOregonState CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State baseball team will wrap up its fall workouts Saturday with a scrimmage that is expected to start at approximately 10 a.m. at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

The Beavers began their fall practices in early September. NCAA clubs are allowed to practice 33 times over 45 days in the fall, with the "clock" starting the first day of practice.

UNLV sets 2010 Schedule

BuddyGouldsmithUNLV LAS VEGAS – A total of 35 home games, matchups with three teams that went to the NCAA Tournament last year and tilts with perennial powers Arizona and Long Beach State highlight the 2010 UNLV baseball schedule, which was announced by the athletics department Friday.

The Rebels open their season at home on Feb. 19 against Sacramento State and that begins a stretch where 19 of UNLV’s first 22 games will be at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, with a total of five teams visiting in the season’s first four weeks. Head coach Buddy Gouldsmith will begin his seventh season guiding the Rebels against his alma mater, as he graduated from Sacramento State in 1992, and he expects it to be the start to an exciting year at Wilson Stadium for Rebel fans.

Wall Street Journal looks at Revenues of College Sports

UKAthletics The Wall Street Journal has put out a very interesting article about the median revenues of major football schools and the numbers are not good for baseball at all. Baseball on average at these schools lose $709,000 while the football programs make nearly 2 million dollars. These numbers are skewed as most major football schools in the northern part of the country have fully funded football programs but do not fully fund the baseball program.

Wood Bats vs Metal Bats

11370259_BG1 This is an argument that comes up every single off-season at least once on this site about the use of Wood Bats vs Metal Bats. There is currently a case in a Montana court room where a pitcher was struck by a ball in the temple and died a few hours later when a blood clot formed. The pitcher’s parents are suing Hillerich & Bradsby which is the parent company of Louisville Slugger.

Bryant releases 2010 Schedule

vigurs_swing SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Bryant University head baseball coach Jamie Pinzino is pleased to announce the Bulldogs’ 2010 schedule, to include 20 home contests as well as a full Northeast Conference slate.

The Bulldogs, who went 32-22 last season in their first year of Division I play, will open the spring season 10-straight road games, traveling south to warmer weather before returning to The Ocean State to host Boston College in the 2010 home opener on Wednesday, March 17.
