Kent State releases 2010 Slate

KentStateBaseball KENT, Ohio – Coming off one of its most successful seasons in program history, which included the school’s seventh MAC Tournament Title and ninth NCAA appearance, Kent State head coach Scott Stricklin announced Friday (Oct. 9) one of the toughest schedules for the Golden Flashes in recent memory.

"We’ve gone to Florida and Alabama in the past, but when you look at the first five weekends, all five trips are really challenging," said Stricklin. "Playing in great venues is always something that we promised our players. We want to make sure we play great teams in great stadiums."

Cal State Northridge Announces 2010 Schedule

Cal State Northridge Media Relations Photo NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – As preparations continue for their 52nd season of competition, the Cal State Northridge Matadors released their 2010 schedule Tuesday afternoon.

Friday, February 19th is when the first game of the 2010 season will take place for the Matadors as they travel to Compton, Calif. to face Bethune-Cookman in the inaugural game of the MLB Urban Invitational. CSUN will return to the MLB Urban Youth Academy the very next day to face Southern before completing tournament play at UCLA in a Sunday afternoon match-up against the Bruins.

Gonzaga promotes Danny Evans to Associate Head Coach

Notre Dame to hold Blue-Gold Series starting Tuesday

www.mattcashore.com NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame baseball team will hold its annual Blue-Gold intrasquad series this week at Eck Stadium, with the seven-inning games to be played on Tuesday, Oct. 13 (4:00 p.m.), Wednesday, Oct. 14 (4:00) and Thursday, Oct. 15 (4:00). Each game is open to the public and free-of-charge.

"We have had a terrific and competitive fall practice schedule," said fourth-year head coach Dave Schrage. "The Blue-Gold series is a great way for the players to wrap up all their hard work with three competitive battles against one another."

Georgia’s Levi Hyams arrested

LeviHyams Georgia sophomore shortstop/second baseman Levi Hyams was arrested on Saturday morning at 12:53 am for underage possession of alcohol, giving false information, and possession of a fraudulent ID. Hyams was seen by a police officer scaling a fence at the UGA Campus Transit facility when the officer investigated found Hyams hiding in some bushes. Coach Dave Perno declined comment to the Athens-Banner Herald about the situation. According to UGA Athletic Association rules, he faces a suspension of 10 percent of his teams games which comes out to 5 or 6.

CBB Top 100 Countdown: Number 99 Matt Newman (Arizona State)

MattNewman The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 99 in our countdown with junior outfielder Matt Newman from Arizona State who stands at 5’11 175 pounds. He comes from Brophy Prep School and Glendale Arizona. After earning his two letters with Brophy, he was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 49th round (1419th overall) of the 2007 MLB Draft. He couldn’t come to an agreement with the Diamondbacks which saw him continue his career at Arizona State.

Fresno State starts Fall Practice

CoachBatesole FRESNO, Calif. – The temperatures have dropped and the leaves are changing colors, both signs that fall is upon us. With the changing of the seasons comes the beginning of fall practices for the Fresno State baseball team. Fall ball practices and scrimmages officially started on Oct. 2.

"We had a great first week of practice which included our first two scrimmages," said head coach Mike Batesole. "We have some very interesting battles for playing time in full swing. We have had several top 25 recruiting classes, but our 2009 class was our best. We have added to that an excellent 2010 class and don’t forget, we have a few veterans remaining from our 2008 National Championship team. This has made our scrimmages exciting as the battle to be in the opening day lineup has begun."

Chris Smelley shows up at Alabama

ChrisSmelley Former South Carolina quarterback Chris Smelley is currently in fall workouts with the Alabama baseball program as he is trying to make the transition between the two sports. Smelley started 15 games for the Steve Spurrier led Gamecocks before deciding to transfer down to Tuscaloosa to play baseball with the Crimson Tide.
