MickeyWiswallHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 84 in our countdown with junior 1B/3B Mickey Wiswall of Boston College. He is a 6’0 207 pound left handed hitting third baseman who comes from Stoneham, MA and Belmont Hill where he played high school baseball. He played for three seasons at Belmont Hill under Edward Gallagher where Mickey hit over .450 in each of his seasons while totaling 11 homers and 64 RBI in his career. He was named to the Inner City League All-Star Game and was an AAU All-American.

Wiswall made an immediate impact in the Boston College lineup in the 2008 season which was his freshman campaign. He appeared in 49 games starting 47 of them while having a .306 batting average with four homers and 28 RBI. He finished third on the squad with a .461 slugging percentage. He spent the summer with the Winchester Royals of the Valley League where he hit .336 with seven homers and 36 RBI. His biggest game came against Winchester when he hit three homers. Baseball America named him the ninth best hitter in the Valley League after the season was over.

Mickey continued to pound the ball during the 2009 season as he hit in the cleanup spot behind number 4 overall pick Tony Sanchez. He finished the season with a .320AL_MickeyWiswall average with 14 homers and 63 RBI. He had a slugging percentage of .551 which was second on the squad behind the aforementioned Sanchez. Wiswall spent the summer of 2009 with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox where he hit .305 with five homers and 30 RBI. He was selected for the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game where he started at first base but didn’t record a hit in the rain shortened game. He was also named to the 2009 CCBL All-League first baseman. Baseball America named him the 21st best prospect in the league.

The biggest concern with Wiswall is the fact that he strikes out at over 21 percent of his at bats while only walking in 17 times in the entire 2009 NCAA Baseball season. He will need to cut down on this if he wants to rise up the draft boards and I expect that he will be more patient at the plate as he will be pitched around this season.
