CBB Top 100 Countdown: Number 86 Ben Koenigsfeld (Army)

BenKoenigsfeldArmyHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 86 in our countdown with Army junior two-way player Ben Koenigsfeld. He is from New Port Richey Florida and attended Ridgewood High School where he was a three sport standout in basketball and swimming in addition to baseball. He was a two-time conference selection while being named League Pitcher of the Year as a senior. He was selected for the Florida All-Star Game for his solid interscholastic career.

In his freshman season, Ben saw action on the mound in 13 games (11 starts) where he accumulated a 6-4 record including one save with a 5.61 ERA. He finished the year with 54 strikeouts in 69.0 innings of work. The Patriot League named him Second-Team All-Conference for his accomplishments on the mound. He also saw action at the plate where he played in 12 games (four starts) with a .333 batting average and one RBI.

Last season, Koenigsfeld became a true two way player as he made 13 appearances (all starts) on the mound with a 8-4 record and a 4.89 ERA. The most impressive BenKoenigsfeldArmy stat is that he had four complete games in those starts. He ended up striking out 63 batters in 84.2 innings while walking 33 batters. He was very solid at the plate too as he had a .342 average with seven homers and 38 RBI in 48 games. His slugging percentage for the entire season was .533 and he was perfect on the basepaths with eleven stolen bases. The Patriot League named him as an All-Conference Pitcher and All-Conference Outfielder.  He was also named the Patriot League Tournament MVP as Army won the conference tournament behind his arm and bat.
