GregMamula CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati Baseball team has named Greg Mamula as an assistant coach, head coach Brian Cleary announced today. Mamula joins the staff after three years as the head coach at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. During his tenure, he averaged 41 wins per season while compiling an overall coaching record of 124-45 (.734).

"I am excited that Greg has decided to join us and believe that he will be a great asset to us in our recruiting efforts and especially to our players in their development on the field," said Cleary. "He has a great reputation in the college baseball community and has enjoyed much success in his career. He brings solid credentials and experience to our staff. I think our players, former players, fans and friends will enjoy getting to know Greg and his family."

In 2009 Mamula was named the PSAC-East Coach of the Year and the Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, while his team finished the year seventh in the nation after reaching the Division II College World Series. His 2009 team set the school record for wins in a season with 46, breaking the previous mark of 45 set one year earlier. As a head coach, Mamula’s teams have performed just as well in the classroom as they have on the diamond. Prior to taking over as head coach at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, the overall team GPA was 2.3, however, in the three years after he took over the program, his team maintained a GPA ranging from 2.8 – 3.1.

Mamula’s coaching resume includes five years as an assistant coach at the University of Delaware (2001-2006), where he served as the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach. He was also an assistant for three years at Shippensburg University (1999-2001) where he was the infielders coach and assisted with recruiting and hitting.

As a player, Mamula was a four-year starter as an infielder at St. Bonaventure University. There he was an Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team Selection his junior and senior seasons and his senior year was named team captain.

Mamula and his wife Melissa have two children, Reid and Allison.

Mamula is taking over for Brad Meador, who earlier this month took a scouting position with the Cincinnati Reds.

In addition to Mamula, Cleary has brought on Scott Humes for the 2010 season to serve as an assistant. Humes has coached baseball throughout Southeast Ohio as the head coach of the Midland Indians from 2003-06 and as an assistant at both Moeller High School and Wyoming High School. Last season, Humes was the volunteer assistant for Florida International University.
