AdamChampionUALR LITTLE ROCK – UALR head baseball coach Scott Norwood will have 37 home games in his second season with the Trojans, including a non-conference bout against Kansas at Dickey-Stephens Park as announced Wednesday.

The Trojans will play their first 18 games at Gary Hogan Field this season, including their Sun Belt Conference opener against South Alabama (March 12-14). UALR opens the year against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Feb. 19 and will not go on the road until March 19, when it heads to Boca Raton, Fla. for a three-game series with Florida Atlantic. Over the first two months of the season, the Trojans will play a total of four games away from home including a contest at Kansas on March 30.

“Hopefully that will give us come confidence,” said Norwood. “It’s a chance for us to gel a little bit with all of our new guys and show people we’re a little better this year.”

The Jayhawks will visit North Little Rock, Ark. on May 18 when they take on the Trojans at Dickey-Stephens Park. It will be UALR’s first regular-season contest at Dickey-Stephens Park, after facing the Class AA Arkansas Travelers each of the past two seasons in exhibitions.

“It’s a good, high-profile team that we’re bringing in to show people our commitment to get this program on the right track,” said Norwood.

The Trojans also have non-conference road games against Ole Miss (April 7), Oral Roberts (April 13) and Oklahoma (May 4). UALR closes out the regular season with a three-game set against Arkansas State, May 20-22, in Jonesboro. The league’s top eight teams will then advance to the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which will be held May 26-29 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

UALR returns 12 lettermen off last year’s squad, a group which includes three position starters and seven total pitchers. Rounding out the 2010 roster are 27 talented newcomers, including two NJCAA All-Americans.
