UNCWSchedule WILMINGTON, N.C. – Matchups against longtime regional rivals East Carolina, N.C. State, Elon and Coastal Carolina highlight UNC Wilmington’s 2010 baseball schedule, according to 19th-year Seahawk skipper Mark Scalf.

"I think we have a solid schedule as we continue to try to play the best opposition we can," said Scalf. "We have a good mix of teams that will prepare us to reach our goals as a program this season."

The Seahawks open the season with a three-game series in Jacksonville, Fla., against the Dolphins of Jacksonville.

UNCW opens its 34-game home schedule on Feb. 26 by hosting the Hughes Bros. Challenge with Lehigh, Morehead State and Liberty playing in the three-day round robin.

State rival Campbell is back on the schedule following a one-year hiatus with a home-and-home series beginning in Buies Creek on March 3. The Camels return to Brooks Field on April 7.

The Seahawks will then kick off a nine-game homestand on March 5 against Akron. Stony Brook will also participate in the round robin weekend as the Seahawks will play Akron’s Zips and the Seawolves twice apiece. Also making the trip to Wilmington in that homestand are Ball State (Mar. 9), Wake Forest (Mar. 10) and Duquesne for three games (Mar. 12-14).

On March 16, UNCW visits Elon in the second of three away games for the Seahawks in the month of March. The following day, March 17, NC State will visit Brooks Field in the first of a home-and-home series that concludes in Raleigh on April 14.

Rhode Island and Towson are up next for the Seahawks on the weekends of March 19-21 and March 26-29, respectively. The Towson series marks the opening weekend of Colonial Athletic Association action. A road game at East Carolina wraps up the month of March as the Seahawks visit LeClair Field on March 31.

Defending CAA regular season champion George Mason opens the month of April (2-4) at Brooks Field.

On April 6, UNCW visits Coastal Carolina in the first of 11 away games in the month of April.

Weekend series in April include at Delaware (Apr. 9-11), James Madison (Apr. 16-18) and Northeastern (Apr. 24 (DH), 25). In addition to hosting George Mason and Campbell, Charleston Southern (Apr. 13), Coastal Carolina (Apr. 21) and ECU (Apr. 27) all visit the Port City in non-conference action.

UNCW winds down its regular season on April 30-May 2 with three games against CAA rival VCU. The series begins an eight-game homestand to open May. After the Rams, the Seahawks close out their season series with Elon on May 5, followed by defending CAA champions Georgia State on May 8 (doubleheader) and May 9.

The Seahawks close out conference play with three games in Williamsburg, Va., against the Tribe of William & Mary, beginning on May 13.

UNCW will have a bye-week from CAA play following the Tribe series with scheduled games at Charleston Southern (Apr. 18), at home against the College of Charleston (Apr. 20) and at the College of Charleston on Apr. 22.

The CAA Tournament will be held at Brooks Field for the seventh consecutive year, but will only be a four-team event, beginning on May 27.
