San Diego announces Coaching Changes

RichHill San Diego head coach Rich Hill has announced coaching changes with former top assistant coach Eric Valenzuela heading over to cross town rival San Diego State. The biggest change sees Jay Johnson moved up to the top assistant position while Tyler Kincaid has been hired from Palomar College to take over the pitching duties. Ramon Orozco has been moved up to volunteer assistant coach while Nik Crouch joins the staff as the Director of Baseball Operations. We should see how the move by Valenzuela affects the San Diego program as he was very important in bringing some star players into the program which is highlighted by Brian Matusz and Josh Romanski.

Houston promotes Stockton to Associate Head Coach

RussellStocktonHouston The University of Houston announced today that Russell Stockton has been promoted to associate head coach after spending last season as an assistant coach with the Cougars. He spent the ten previous years as the head coach of Division 2 Texas A&M Kingsville where he is the all-time leader in wins at the school. You can check out the full press release below. Duncan leaves Auburn for Purdue

JeffDuncan Jeff Duncan has left his position as a volunteer assistant coach at Auburn for an assistant position with the Purdue Boilermakers. Duncan spent the last school year with the Tigers coaching the outfielders and helping out with the hitters. Outfielder Trent Mummey won the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove while the team hit a school record 103 homers.

This is an interesting move as Purdue is looking to turn around the program after going 25-26 overall and 11-12 in the Big Ten which saw them finish in sixth place in the conference.

K.J. Hockaday commits to Maryland

Maryland_logo Varsity Letters, a high school sports blog for the Baltimore Sun, reports that junior K.J. Hockaday has committed to Maryland to play under first year head coach Erik Bakich. Hockaday is a highly touted recruit out of John Carroll still has two seasons to go at the school. His high school coach is quoted in the article that he doesn’t believe that Hockaday will make it to College Park as he should be drafted after his senior campaign.

Fidanza heads to Coastal Carolina

5293_1081976858974_1512904238_30190460_3366051_n According to a report from VYPE, John Fidanza of Louisville KY has committed to Coastal Carolina to play under Gary Gilmore. Fidanza has accumulated an outstanding high school resume which saw him named to the All-District 27 player as a sophomore while being All-District 27, All-Region 7, and Honorable Mention All-State as a junior.

Topeka Golden Giants announce Tetuan as new coach

Golden-Giants-Logo TOPEKA, KANSAS - The Topeka Golden Giants are pleased to announce that former Hayden High School standout John Tetuan will be the team’s new field manager for the 2010 season.

Tetuan has been an assistant coach with the Golden Giants since 2005 and will step into the role being vacated by Kent Becker.

Longtime Anderson University Baseball coach Don Brandon Announces Retirement

DonBrandon1 Longtime Anderson University head baseball coach Don Brandon after being with the school for the past 50 years from being a player to becoming the head coach of the program. Georgia Southern announces 2010 Schedule

GeorgiaSouthern STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Baseball, the defending Southern Conference Tournament champion, will play 34 games at J.I. Clements Stadium in 2010. Head coach Rodney Hennon announced the schedule on Friday (Sept. 11). Last year marked the 12th time in program history Georgia Southern advanced to the NCAA Regionals (#2 seed at Fullerton Regional).

The Eagles (42-17 overall, 20-8 SoCon last year) open the season playing 14 of their first 16 games at home, starting February 19-21 against Tennessee Tech. The series against the Golden Eagles is one of six GS will play against teams that qualified for the 2009 NCAA Regionals (Georgia Tech, Clemson, South Carolina, Elon and Jacksonville).

Arkansas State adds Tim Kendrick as Volunteer Assistant

TimKendrick JONESBORO, Ark. (09/09/09) – Arkansas State head baseball coach Tommy Raffo announced Wednesday that Tim Kendrick will join the Red Wolves’ coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2010 baseball season.

A native of Middletown, R.I., Kendrick comes to ASU after serving three and one-half years as an assistant coach at Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss. During his time at Mississippi College, Kendrick worked as the recruiting coordinator and position player coach. He maintained the softball and baseball fields and facilities at Mississippi College, coordinated camps and organized practices, academic progress and travel for the Choctaws.

Ohio State adds four for 2010 Season

BobTodd COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State head baseball coach Bob Todd today announced the signing of four student-athletes to national letters of intent. The four, all of them freshmen, are RHP Cole Brown, outfielder Hunter Mayfield, RHP Brett McKinney and catcher Steel Russell.

Brown and Mayfield are both from Tallahassee, Fla., and were teammates at Lawton Chiles High School. McKinney is from Hamilton, Ohio and attended Badin High School. Steel is from the Philadelphia suburb of Wyndmoor, Pa., where he attended Chestnut Hill Academy.

KR’s programs to follow

JaredMitchellLSUPHOTO Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com recently has been checking in on some programs which have some major holes to fill while other programs are looking to just fill in minor holes here and there as they looks to make a run to the College World Series. One example of a program facing some major holes to fill is LSU who lost number 1 starter Louis Coleman, first round pick Jared Mitchell, DJ LeMahieu, Ryan Schimpf, and Sean Ochinko to just name a few. On the other hand, he names the Virginia Cavaliers as a program who doesn’t have too many holes to fill as their only three key losses were Robert Poutier, Andrew Carraway, and Matt Packer who were not top of the rotation pitchers this past season.
