Vanderbilt plans trip to Japan and Hong Kong

VandyBaseball NASHVILLE, Tenn. —Vanderbilt’s baseball team will get a unique opportunity to tour part of Japan and Hong Kong and play four exhibition games in Japan in November.

Due to a generous gift by VU alum Bill Kaye, the Commodores will travel to Japan and Hong Kong during the Thanksgiving holidays and will face four of the top university baseball teams in Japan.

Georgia State releases 2010 Schedule

GregFrady The Georgia State baseball team will open defense of its 2009 CAA Championship by travelling to face Florida State in an opening weekend three-game series to start the 2010 season as announced by head coach Greg Frady on Friday. The Panthers unveiled the entire schedule that will feature 29 home games.

After earning its first CAA Championship and a school-record 39 wins, the journey back to the NCAA Regionals will begin on February 19th in Tallahassee, Fla.

UCLA announces 2009-2010 Recruiting Class

Miami (OH) releases 2010 Slate

DanSimondsMiamiOH OXFORD, Ohio – Highlighted by 23 home games and contests against four 2009 NCAA Tournament participants, head coach Dan Simonds has released Miami University’s 2010 baseball schedule. Miami will play its first 15 games away from Oxford before hosting Northern Kentucky March 17.

The RedHawks open their 2010 campaign at Clemson Feb. 19, facing a Tiger team that made the NCAA Super Regionals a year ago and finished 14th in the nation. It will be Miami’s first meeting with Clemson since 1965 – the only other time the ‘Hawks have played the Tigers. While in South Carolina, Miami will also face Furman Feb. 20 — having traveled to Greenville, S.C. in 2006 as well — and Michigan State Feb. 21 in a neutral-site game in Greenville. The RedHawks last faced the Spartans in 1979 when they fell in the NCAA Mideast Regional.

Northern Illinois Releases 2010 Schedule

NIUBaseball DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois baseball program announced its 2010 schedule on Wednesday, featuring 20 home games, two contests at professional ball parks Road Ranger Stadium and Elfstrom Stadium, and a season-opening four-game set on the road against national powerhouse Arizona State.

"We are really excited about the schedule this year," said NIU head coach Ed Mathey. "We have a lot of games against quality opponents. Obviously, the two that stand out the most are the games against 2009 World Series team Arizona State and 2009 NCAA Regional team Cal Poly.

Brian McCullough named Assistant Coach at Longwood

BrianMcCullough FARMVILLE, Va. — Longwood University 32nd-year baseball head coach Buddy Bolding has announced the recent appointment of former starting pitcher and team captain Brian McCullough as a new Assistant Coach.  He previously has played professionally for the past three seasons in the independent Frontier League.  McCullough was a four-year starter for the Lancers (2004-07) while majoring in business management.  He will serve as the program’s pitching coach while also assisting with all baseball operations, including recruiting.

Florida to kick off Fall Practice on Friday

FloridaFallBall The University of Florida baseball team will open its fall practice session on Friday, Sept. 25, at McKethan Stadium. The entire squad will have workouts, including several scrimmages, between Sept. 25 and Nov. 1. The fall practice will conclude with a pair of nine-inning games, in which the Gators are split into two teams, on Saturday, Oct. 31, and Sunday, Nov. 1.

Florida State releases 2010 Slate

MartinManuel TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State baseball announced on Wednesday, September 23 the schedule for the 2010 season. The Seminoles will open the season inside the friendly confines of Dick Howser Stadium on Mike Martin Field with a three-game series against the Georgia State Panthers beginning Friday, February 19.

Ten teams on this year’s schedule recorded 30 or more wins a season ago. Seven schools earned a bid to participate in an NCAA Regional in 2009, while five teams finished last year ranked in the top 25.
