Minnesota set to play full 2010 Schedule at Metrodome

GopherBaseball The Star Tribune reports that the Minnesota Gophers will play the 2010 college baseball season in its entirety at the Metrodome. The reason behind this is the fact that a new baseball stadium is being built on the Minnesota campus. The Gophers will have full use of the Metrodome as the Minnesota Twins move to a new outdoor stadium next season.

2010 Schedules Released for Washington, Pacific, & Nevada

Washington Media Relations Photo Washington Huskies baseball will begin the Lindsay Meggs era in 2010.  The new head coach released the upcoming season’s schedule for the Huskies, which will see his team start the year in the Tucson Tournament (Feb. 19-21).  Coach Meggs will get his first taste of baseball at Husky Ballpark when the team welcomes Fresno State (Feb. 26-28) to Seattle for a weekend series.  The Huskies will then hit the road for a season long eight game road trip with stops at Oregon (March 2-3), Long Beach State (March 5-7), and BYU (March 11-13).

California, Columbia Release 2010 Schedules

ESPN Photo The Cal Golden Bears have unveiled their 2010 schedule.  The season will begin with a four games in Berkeley against Southern Utah (Feb. 19-21) and UC Davis (Feb. 23) before the Golden Bears take part in the Cal State Bakersfield Tournament (Feb. 26-28).  Also highlighting the non-conference schedule for the Bears is a four game weekend series at Rice (March 11-14) and a three game set at Cal Poly (March 19-21) as well as a home series against the Arkansas Razorbacks (March 5-7).

Georgetown facing NCAA Probation

3504781 The Georgetown Athletic Department was placed on three years probation after an internal investigation discovered irregularities within the baseball program. The investigation focused on how 26 Georgetown student-athletes were members of a Work-Study program from the 2000-2001 to the 2006-2007 school years. Each of the student-athletes played for the baseball program while also working for the team doing various tasks, from laundry to trash pick-up or field preparations. The players were told by an assistant coach to fill out their time cards for blocks of time instead of the actual hours they worked. Of course, some of the time which the players were compensated for was never actually worked.

Baseball America releases Top Prospects Lists for Summer Leagues and Team USA

BaseballAmerica DURHAM, N.C.–Mississippi and Washington State lead all schools by placing five players apiece on Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Last summer, Louisiana State and Texas each led the nation with five players apiece on BA’s summer league lists, and those two teams wound up facing off for the national championship at the College World Series.

BA ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, and the top 10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues. In addition, the top 20 Team USA prospects were ranked.

K-State’s Brad Hill given Multi-Year Contract Extension

Head Coach Brad Hill 1 MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State Director of Athletics John Currie announced Wednesday that head baseball coach Brad Hill has agreed to a new multi-year contract, securing the services of the 2009 Big 12 Coach of the Year through the 2013 season.

The new four-year deal is retroactive to July 1, 2009, and extends to June 14, 2013. It replaces the four-year agreement Hill signed in 2007.

Charleston Southern adds Sid Fallow to Coaching Staff

Virginia’s Davenport Field Improvements

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Fall practice starts in about two weeks for the UVa baseball team.  Before fall ball ends, the sounds of construction may make it difficult at times for players and coaches to concentrate at Davenport Field.

They won’t mind at all.

Isaac Omura added to Hawaii coaching staff

rp_primary_omura_web HONOLULU – University of Hawai‘i head baseball coach Mike Trapasso announced the addition of former standout second baseman Isaac Omura to his staff as a volunteer assistant coach Monday.

“We’re very excited to have Isaac on staff with us,” Trapasso said. “He was a great player for UH for three years. We’re fortunate to have him come and help us while he’s working on his degree, now that his playing career is over. He’ll be a great resource for our players, having played at such a high level.”

Tennessee, Texas Southern Unveil 2010 Schedules

The Tennessee Volunteers have released their 2010 schedule.  The 56 game slate has the Vols playing thirty five home games, including fifteen home SEC contests.  The Vols will begin the season at home against 2009 Regional participant Xavier (Feb. 19-21).  The non-conference portion of the schedule is highlighted by two tournaments in Knoxville, one in which the Volunteers will host Binghamton and Kennesaw State (March 5-7) and the other in which Tennessee hosts Connecticut, Ohio State, and Marshall (March 12-14).

Alabama Baseball Coach Jim Wells Retires – Mitch Gaspard Named Head Coach

3502110TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama Director of Athletics Mal Moore announced Tuesday that head baseball coach Jim Wells has retired effective immediately.  Mitch Gaspard, who served the last two seasons assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, has agreed to be the Crimson Tide’s next head baseball coach.

TCU Posts 2010 Schedule

ncaa_winkler1_sw_200 Head coach Jim Schlossnagle has announced the 2010 TCU baseball schedule.  The Horned Frogs advanced to the school’s first ever Super Regional appearance last season which saw them come within a game of the College World Series.

TCU will host Sam Houston State (Feb. 19-21) for a three game set at Lupton Stadium to begin the season before hitting the road for a mid-week game at Baylor (Feb. 23) and a weekend set at west coast power Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 26-28).
