WesternMichigan KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan baseball team has announced its 56-game 2010 schedule, opening the season with trips to Dallas and Winter Haven, Fla. WMU will also play a five-game intrasquad series, the Black & Gray World Series, in October as part of fall ball practice.

The Black & Gray series begins Oct. 2 at 2:30 p.m at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field. The other four games are scheduled for Oct. 9, 10, 16 & 18. Weekday games will begin at 2:30 p.m. and weekend games are scheduled for 11 a.m.

"I certainly think that we have put together another challenging schedule for the 2010 season," WMU head coach Randy Ford said. "We open up with 17 of our 28 non-conference games on the road starting with Dallas Baptist and play several teams in Winter Haven, Fla., to finish up our spring trip. This will be a good early test of our team goals."

Western Michigan opens in Texas with a three-game series at Dallas Baptist, Feb. 26-27. The Broncos then play seven games in Winter Haven, Fla., against opponents yet to be announced, before heading to Oral Roberts for a three-game set. Other non-conference opponents during the season include Indiana State, Concordia College, Oakland, Notre Dame, Illinois-Chicago, Michigan State, Michigan, Davenport and Illinois.

The Broncos open Mid-American Conference play at home against Akron, March 26-28, and will also host Miami, Toledo and Ball State. WMU travels to Kent State, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Northern Illinois. All MAC series are three games, Friday through Sunday. Bowling Green is listed as a single game on the schedule, a contest that will not be included in either team’s conference record.

"We add Akron and Kent State from last year and drop Buffalo and Bowling Green, the Mid-American Conference schedule will again be a tremendous challenge." Ford said.
