TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With the fall baseball season in full swing, Seminoles.com took some time out this week to visit with a few of the returning players to find out how their summer went and to get their perspective on the upcoming year.

In the final segment of this week’s player feature, FSU Sports Information Student Assistant Ultima Rogers sat down with junior outfielder Tyler Holt (Gainesville, FL) to get his thoughts on the summer and how fall practice has played out so far. Here is what Tyler had to say:

Q: What is the team looking like this year?
A: The team is looking very, very good. We have a lot of older guys coming back with their head on properly. With the new guys, it’s such a surprise to have a good attitude and it’s a good change that this program needs.

Q: What do you think the new guys will bring to the plate this year?
A: I think the new guys will bring maturity honestly. These guys are not the normal freshmen that come in and think “Oh you’re a Florida State baseball player, things will just be handed to you.” That kind of attitude and the competition we have from these guys will push us ahead to new levels and that’s what we need to get to where we need to go.

Q: Have you noticed any growth from over the summer from the returning players?
A: Growth as in personality and emotion towards the game, yeah. The fight and the way we played as freshmen and sophomores, no, which is good. We’ve got guys coming back that know the game a lot better. I think we have now learned better way to cope with failures and struggles as the season progresses.

Q: What did you do over the summer to prepare yourself for the upcoming season?
A: I’d say I tried to learn the game better in an emotional way. Fans know that I tend to show my emotions and I can see how it affects people and my team in a negative way. I see myself as a leader and these guys need to know that through thick and thin we can roll through and overcome anything.

Q: What is your favorite baseball superstition?
A: I put my left (batting) glove, then my right (batting) glove on. I put my fingers through the helmet and spin the helmet once and put it on. Also my stretching that I do when I come up to the plate. Girls love it I heard.

Q: What is your favorite pre-game ritual?
A: I’d have to say prayer. When were in there talking about the game and how everyone is pretty pumped up then we pray, its just a really good bonding experience and we kind of feel like everyone is on the same page.

Q: If you could play any other sport what would it be?
A: Tennis or volleyball. I just love those sports. No contact really which is nice.

Q: Who is your favorite athlete?
A: Rafael Nadal. I just like the way he plays. His attitude and fire resembles mine. Plus, he’s quite the ladies’ man.

Q: What is your favorite personal baseball achievement?
A: Playing for my country this summer with Team USA. That was a great honor and a great experience playing in Japan and Canada. That’s my best personal experience besides going to Omaha as a team.

Q: Favorite superhero and why?
A: I’m going to have to go with Quail-man. Everybody loves him. He has a best friend, Silver-Skeeter. With Quail-man you just can’t go wrong.
