IOWA IOWA CITY, IA — University of Iowa Head Baseball Coach Jack Dahm announced that Zach Dillon will serve as the team’s volunteer coach. Dillon, a native of Urbandale, IA, attended Baylor University and was subsequently selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 20th Round (595th overall) of the 2006 amateur entry draft as a catcher. His honors include 2005 ABCA second team all-Midwest Region selection, 2005 first team all-Big 12 Conference honoree and a nine time Big 12 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient. Dillon will work with the catchers, assist with hitters and take over as camp coordinator.

"We are extremely excited for Coach Dillon to be part of our program," Dahm said. "The experience Coach Dillon can bring to our team is great. He grew up a coach’s son, was a part of a state winning Des Moines Dowling program, has been to the College World Series with Baylor and has experience in the minors. He has a wealth of experiences to share with our players and has been very impressive his month here. Coach Dillion has a bright future."

Former Hawkeye standout and three-year Volunteer Coach Kris Welker has taken an assistant coaching job at the College of Southern Idaho where he will work with pitchers and catchers, as well as recruiting. Welker played at CSI from 2001-03 before transferring to Iowa.

"We were very fortunate the past three years to have Kris Welker on our staff," Dahm said. "He did a tremendous job with our hitters and catchers and we wish the best for him."

Additionally, former Iowa Volunteer Coach Spencer Allen has taken the Washington State University assistant coaching job where he will coach first base, work with the outfielders and coordinate the team’s short game. Allen has spent the past two years as Purdue’s assistant coach. Prior to that, he served as a scout for the Detroit Tigers, was an assistant on the Creighton staff and served as a volunteer assistant at Iowa in 2004 under coach Dahm.
