rp_primary_omura_web HONOLULU – University of Hawai‘i head baseball coach Mike Trapasso announced the addition of former standout second baseman Isaac Omura to his staff as a volunteer assistant coach Monday.

“We’re very excited to have Isaac on staff with us,” Trapasso said. “He was a great player for UH for three years. We’re fortunate to have him come and help us while he’s working on his degree, now that his playing career is over. He’ll be a great resource for our players, having played at such a high level.”

Omura lettered three years with the UH from 2003-05 before getting drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball Draft. He was a two-time all-WAC player that finished with a career .333 batting average and 99 RBI.

The Honolulu native had a breakout season in 2005, batting .369 with six home runs, 19 doubles, 47 RBI and 36 runs. In 2004, Omura ended the season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, committing no errors on 200 chances at second base.
