Neiman added to Maryland Coaching Staff

NolanNeiman COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland baseball head coach Erik Bakich announced today that Nolan Neiman will join the 2009-10 baseball staff as a volunteer assistant. The hire completes the coaching staff, with Bakich having previously hired Sean Kenny as pitching coach and Dan Burton as recruiting coordinator.

"Nolan Neiman is a tremendous addition to our coaching staff and will do an outstanding job on the field as well as administratively," said Bakich. "His experience coaching catchers, hitters and pitchers will be a great asset in the development of our players. His extensive background with camps and clinics will also be an invaluable addition in generating interest in Maryland baseball throughout the mid-Atlantic."

Chris Sale named CCBL Top Pitcher

ChrisSale_YD_8Aug09_0509_400 YARMOUTH, Mass.– Red Sox hurler Chris Sale (Florida Gulf Coast) sailed to the top of the list of pitchers this season earning him the BFC Outstanding Pitcher Award for the 2009 Cape Cod Baseball League Season. Sale was received the award after the first game in Round 2 of the playoffs at Red Wilson Field.

“It’s exciting,” said Sale. “I never really checked my stats during the year. I didn’t really know how I was holding up to the rest of the pack as far ERA, strikeouts, and what not but it was very surprising and very gratifying.”

Bourne wins CCBL Title

BourneCelebration COTUIT, Mass.—It took the town 44 years—longer than the Braves themselves have existed—but the Bourne Braves have won it all. They swept Cotuit with a 5-1 win at Lowell Park to win the Arnold Mycock trophy and claim a place among the other nine teams in the league as champions.

“Last year, we told Harwich it had been a long 21 years. I can only imagine how 44 years felt,” said Commissioner Paul Galop as he handed the trophy to manager Harvey Shapiro. For the Braves, who became a team in 1988, the moment was perfect.

Live Video: CCBL Championship Series Game 2 Bourne vs Cotuit

The Cape Cod Baseball League Championship series continues today with Bourne visiting Cotuit in the second game of their three game series. Bourne won Game 1 last evening by a score of 15-5 in only six innings due to fog. Game 2 starts today at 3pm Eastern time and if Cotuit is able to pick up the victory then the teams will play a deciding game tomorrow in Bourne.

Holy Cross adds two to Coaching Staff

mccrea Holy Cross head coach Greg DiCenzo has added Gabe Ribas and Jeff Kane to his staff for the 2009-2010 school year. Ribas comes over to Holy Cross from Northwestern where he served as an assistant coach last season. He has also served coaching stints with the IMG Baseball Academy, Bowdoin College, Frozen Ropes Baseball Academy, and Rock Solid Baseball. Ribas was a 14th round selection in 2002 by the San Diego Padres.

UW-Lacrosse Baseball Saved

Zach Thiel dropped me a quick email yesterday to tell me that the Wisconsin-Lacrosse baseball program has been saved from being cut. Thiel started up SaveUWLBaseball.com which was part of the effort to raise close to $39,000 which was only $11,000 short of the goal. WMBL final: Okotoks Dawgs vs. Melville Millionaires

wmbl_thumb The Okotoks Dawgs will play the Melville Millionaires in a bid to win their third straight Western Major Baseball League championship. The first two games of the best-of-five final series will be in Okotoks, AB Wednesday, August 12, and Thursday, August 13. The third and fourth (if necessary) games will be played in Melville, SK August 14 and 15, and the fifth (if necessary) game will be played in Okotoks.

Bourne wins Game 1 of CCBL Championship series

BOURNE, Mass.—Over 6,000 fans packed into picturesque Doran Park for the first game of the Cape League Championship Series to witness the Bourne Braves defeat the Cotuit Kettleers 15-5 in a fog-shortened six-inning game.    

Cotuit came in fresh off of an 18-4 drubbing of the Y-D Red Sox. Unfortunately for Ketteleers fans, the tables turned on Tuesday night. The Braves sent 12 men to the plate in the first inning for a total of seven runs on five hits. The attack was spearheaded by Kyle Roller (East Carolina) andPierre LePage (Connecticut) each of whom walked and singled to keep the merry-go-round moving.

Texas A&M Promotes Seely to Assistant Coach

"Justin is someone who was a special player and is a special coach," Childress said.

Texas A&M CC adds Mansinger as Pitching Coach

Live Video: CCBL Championship Series Game 1 Cotuit vs Bourne

The Cape Cod Baseball League winds down over the next three days with the Cotuit Kettleers and Bourne Braves facing off in the Championship Series. Every game of the championship series will be webcasted by the CCBL. Bourne advanced to the CCBL Championship by defeating Orleans in two games while Cotuit took the hard way as they won a wild-card game against Wareham before defeating Yarmouth-Dennis in three games.
