2009 Under Armour Cape Cod Baseball League All-Stars Named

HYANNIS, Mass. – The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox have a league-leading seven All-Stars in the 47th Under Armour Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game to be held on Thursday, July 23 at Boston’s Fenway Park.

Each 21-player team was selected in a meeting of the team’s 10 managers in Hyannis Thursday morning.  The rosters are comprised of 10 starters, 11 reserves, and four alternate players. Read the rest of this entry »

Japan takes final game 8-7 over Team USA

teamusapic(TOKYO) – Japan took advantage of back-to-back errors in the bottom of the 11th inning to clinch the 37th Annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate Championships with an 8-7 victory at Jingu Stadium.

With the game tied at seven, pitcher Sonny Gray’s (Vanderbilt) errant pickoff attempt moved Shota Kioke to third base with two outs. Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) then misplayed a ground ball at shortstop that scored Kioke from third base to seal the game and best-of-five series. Read the rest of this entry »

Garrido sentenced to four days in Jail

augiegarridoLegendary Texas baseball head coach Augie Garrido has been sentenced for his drunk driving conviction from the spring. He will be serving four days in jail while losing his driver’s license for 90 days and paying a $500 fine. Garrido already has 2 days of time served and Travis County officials have not announced how the rest of his sentenced will be dealt with.

pp4_jackarmstrongWareham starter Jack Armstrong (Vanderbilt) has been named this week’s Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week. The 6-7 righty earned the honor with a complete game shutout over Hyannis on Monday, July 6. Armstrong shut down a high-powered Mets lineup that had scored a total of 15 runs in their previous two games, pitching the Gatemen to a 4-0 win. The Brazos Valley Bombers were on the verge of another come-from-behind victory tonight, but came up short in a 4-2 loss to the East Texas Pump Jacks. The Bombers scored two in the ninth inning, but the Pump Jacks closer Stephen Tromblee was able to stem the tide to collect the save.

Washington settling on a New Head Coach??

hughesAccording to multiple sources, Virginia Tech’s Peter Hughes was offered the Washington Huskies job today but turned down the offer to stay with the Hokie program. Hughes just finished his third season with the Virginia Tech program where he went 32-21 in 2009. It was good enough for a 11th place finish in the ACC. Read the rest of this entry »
