Former UW Head Coach Ken Knutson added to ASU’s staff

Knutson TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State baseball has named Ken Knutson as the program’s volunteer assistant coach, head coach Pat Murphy announced today. Knutson comes to ASU after spending the previous 17 seasons as the head coach at the University of Washington.

"Arizona State is very lucky to be adding a coach of Ken’s status to our program," said head coach Pat Murphy. "He is an established winner, a highly respected coach and I look forward to working with him."

Tom Myers Named Associate Head Baseball Coach

TomMyers SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Tom Myers, who is entering his 10th season as a coach with the UCSB baseball team, has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, it was announced on Wednesday by Director of Athletics, Mark Massari.

Myers has been the Gauchos’ assistant coach, pitching coach and recruiting coordinator during his time at UCSB under head coach Bob Brontsema, while his other duties have included academic affairs and Gaucho Baseball Camp. The new title comes with the added responsibility of alumni development.

"I’m excited about where we want to go – and must go – in baseball," Massari said. "Bob, Tom, alumni who played their hearts out for UCSB and current student-athletes want what’s best for the program. We need to recruit the best players, which we already do, and give them a chance to win championships. Tom’s new role, alongside Bob and myself, is to direct our baseball fundraising and engage our alumni. This is their program, their school. Santa Barbara, the university and area, deserve us to be top tier in everything, every sport. But we must invest to do this. I’m proud Tom is taking this role with such enthusiasm."

Kris Rochelle added to Charlotte Coaching Staff

Rochelle Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte head baseball coach Loren Hibbs has named former 49ers catcher Kris Rochelle to his coaching staff for the 2010 season. He will take over as hitting instructor and work with the catchers and infielders.

Rochelle had his pro playing career cut short, playing parts of three seasons of minor league baseball following his 2007 graduation and drafting by Detroit. He joins the Niners after two seasons with the Washington Wild Things and a season with the Oneonta Tigers.

"We are excited to have Kris back in our program," said Hibbs.

Western Major Baseball League Recap for July 29th

Western Major Baseball LeagueThe regular season for the WMBL is over, and the playoffs start on Friday, July 31. The Okotoks Dawgs won the West Division pennant with a 32-13 record, and they will host the Moose Jaw Miller Express in the first playoff round. The Swift Current Indians won the Central Division pennant with a 27-13 record, and they will host Yorkton Cardinals in the first round. The Melville Millionaires won the East Division with a 26-14 record, and will host the Regina Red Sox. The other first-round playoff matchup is Medicine Hat Mavericks at Lethbridge Bulls. Raleigh checking in on his Draft Picks

Raleigh Tennessee’s Todd Raleigh recently made a trip to Cape Cod to check in on his two drafted players in Chad Bell and Bryan Morgado. Bell is transferring into the Tennessee program for the 2010 season but was selected in the 14th round by the Texas Rangers. He is currently 3-1 with a 1.34 ERA in the Cape League. Morgado on the other hand was selected in the third round by the Chicago White Sox. He is currently sporting a 2-0 mark with a 1.67 ERA. The article also talks about four incoming freshmen who have already enrolled in summer school eliminating the suspense on whether or not they sign a contract.

Kennesaw State 2010 Schedule Released

TylorStubblefield Kennesaw State enters the 2010 campaign as a full-fledged participant in Division I baseball.  The Owls will have the opportunity to play in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and earn a birth in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.  In 2009, Kennesaw State compiled a 30-22 overall record and posted a very impressive 20-9 mark in Atlantic Sun play.

The Owls will open the season with a six game homestand.  The Liberty Flames will visit Kennesaw February 19-21, followed by the Samford Bulldogs on February 26-28.

Furman Baseball Adds Nine for 2010

UNO Athletics Names Peddie Head Baseball Coach

Peddie NEW ORLEANS – It has been a longtime dream for Bruce Peddie, and the dream came true on Tuesday.

After a three-year stint as the associate head baseball coach at the University of New Orleans, the school will recommend Peddie to the President of the LSU System for consideration of the LSU Board of Supervisors for the program’s top spot.

Peddie becomes the program’s sixth head baseball coach — replacing Tom Walter, who was recently named the head coach at Wake Forest.

2009 Under Armour High School All-American Game

UnderArmourAllStarGame COLUMBIA, MD – Under Armour and Baseball Factory today announced that the 2009 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game will once again be played at the historic Wrigley Field on Saturday, August 8. This is the second year that Under Armour will serve as the game’s title sponsor.  The game will air live nationally on ESPNU.

The 2009 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game, powered by Baseball Factory will showcase thirty-six of the nation’s best rising juniors and seniors, competing in a Baseball Factory versus Team One Baseball match-up.

Butler signs with BoSox

DanielButler Nicole Auerbach of The Cape Cod Times has an excellent article on former Arizona catcher Daniel Butler who signed a pro contract with the Boston Red Sox on Monday evening. Butler finished the 2009 college season with a .263 batting average in 27 games while hitting only 3 homers. After the season, Butler made the trip to play in the Cape Cod League where he started the summer with Yarmouth-Dennis before being released when Micah Gibbs showed up and latching on with Brewster. He has been lauded for his game calling skills as he has been calling his own game with Brewster for the past month.
