USA Baseball announces 18U Trials invitees

CARY, N.C. — USA Baseball (USAB) has announced a group of 34 players who will be considered for inclusion on its 2009 18U National Team for international competition. The 34 players, along with 10 alternates, were selected from those who participated this week in the 17th Annual Tournament of Stars, presented by Major League Baseball, at USAB’s National Training Complex in Cary. The Brazos Valley Bombers came up on the short end of the stick in a pitcher’s duel tonight in Coppell, losing in extra innings by a score of 2-1. The Bombers tied the game at one in the ninth inning, only to see Coppell score the winning run an inning later on Austin Goolsby’s walk-off single.

Bourne lefty Bryan Morgado (Tennessee) has been named Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week, joining fellow Brave Eric Cantrell (George Washington), who won the award the first week of the season. Wilkins, USA Slam Past Guatemala 18-1 in Series Finale

Jayhawk T.J. Walz makes USA National Team

TJWalzTim Dwyer of The University Daily Kansan has a great article on Kansas pitcher T.J. Walz who made the 2009 USA National Team on one of the final days of tryouts. He ended up pitching four innings allowing only a run on two hits during his trial appearance. Team USA Earns 18-0 Blowout Victory Over Guatemala

Kansas Jayhawks in the Summer Leagues

Kansas sophomore Jimmy Waters has been selected to play for the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Team in an exhibition against Team USA.

After an impressive 39-win season and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, several current members of the Kansas baseball team continue to open eyes this for various summer leagues and teams across the country.
