Team USA loses 7-1 to Budo University

(CHIBA, JAPAN) – Team USA (11-1) committed three errors and left eight runners on base in a 7-1 exhibition loss to Budo University, Friday, in Chiba, Japan. The loss was the first by the U.S. this summer and it snapped a 35-game winning streak for the National Team dating back to last season.

Tyler Holt (Florida State) reached second base on an error by the left fielder to begin the game and later scored Team USA’s lone run on an RBI groundout by Blake Forsythe (Tennessee) in the bottom of the first inning. Read the rest of this entry »

Chatham defeated Brewster 5-3 behind five one-hit innings from Logan Varrett (Baylor). Box Score

Larry Hays returns to coaching

larry-haysLarry Hays known mostly for coaching Texas Tech and Lubbock Christian baseball programs is coming back to coaching in 2010 when he takes over the Lubbock Christian softball team. He replaces his son Shanon who started up the program two years ago before accepting the head coaching position with Texas Tech.

Larry Hays played professional softball during his playing days from Mobile Alabama to Montreal Quebec. He assisted Shanon over the last two season which saw him grow found of the program which won the 2008 NAIA National Championship in their inaugural season. Read the rest of this entry »

Jared Mitchell signs with White Sox (Ted Kirk/AP)

Jared Mitchell has officially signed with the Chicago White Sox after being selected with the 23rd overall pick. He has been assigned to Kannapolis of the South Atlantic League.

Mitchell skyrocketed this season up the draft boards after focusing on baseball this spring after playing his first two seasons at the school splitting time between spring football and the baseball season. Read the rest of this entry »

ASU’s Holliday heads to Vandy; ECU’s Jarrett heads to Auburn

joshhollidayWe have two major coaching changes in college baseball today. The biggest news is former Arizona State recruiting coordinator Josh Holliday will replace Erik Bakich at Vanderbilt. Bakich left last week for the head coaching job at Maryland. This is huge news as Holliday recruited the number 1 class in the country for this past year’s freshman class and has also been with Georgia Tech where he brought in some excellent players like Matt Wieters. The other big coaching change is East Carolina’s recruiting coordinator Link Jarrett moving over to Auburn to fill that position also. Read the rest of this entry »

The Washington Athletic Department announced on June 22nd that head coach Ken Knutson will no longer serve as the head baseball coach. As of right now, the Huskies have not been able to settle on a coach with several high profile head coaches and assistants pulling out of the running. The two most recent guys to pull out are Pepperdine’s Steve Rodriguez and LSU assistant coach David Grewe. The name everyone keeps bringing up is Nino Giarranto from San Francisco. Georgia State’s Frady gets Five-Year Contract

Jeff Metcalfe of Azcentral.com has an interesting article checking in on the Arizona State program. The first piece of news in the report is the fact that Jordan Swagerty is giving back his 70 percent scholarship to the school if more signees decide to join the Sun Devils then expected.
