Lehigh Mountain Hawks add 11 in baseball class of 2013

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Sean Leary announced the addition of 11 student-athletes to the Mountain Hawks baseball program on Tuesday.  The list includes nine incoming freshmen and two transfers, from across the nation.  The class of 2013 is comprised of Casey Atkins (The Woodlands, Tex.), Steven Ball (Blacksburg, Va.), Scott Hansen (Saddle Brook, N.J.), Alex Jacquez (Dunn Loring, Va.), Thomas O’Malley (Oakland, Calif.), Ryan Patrick (Avon Lake, Ohio), Cameron Phillips (Falls Church, Va.), Brandon Sady (Maple Glen, Pa.), and John Saleh (Wilmette, Ill.).  “We expect this class to come in and contribute as freshmen,” Leary said.  “There are both pitchers and position players that should immediately compete for time this upcoming spring.” Read the rest of this entry »

Team USA Tops Japan 8-4

(SENDAI, Japan) – Sonny Gray (Vanderbilt) pitched five and a third innings of scoreless relief and Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit a three-run home run in the fourth to lead Team USA to an 8-4 victory over Japan in game three of the 37th Annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate Championships.

Team Japan scored three runs in the top of the first inning on USA starter Cody Wheeler (Coastal Carolina). Takahiro Araki hit an RBI triple to score the first run of the game and Masayoshi Kato followed with a two-RBI triple to put Team Japan up 3-0 after the first inning. Read the rest of this entry »

East Texas Pump Jacks 8 McKinney Marshals 4

The East Texas Pump Jacks will return home at the end of the season’s longest road trip the same way they left – on a win streak.

The Pump Jacks downed the McKinney Marshals, 8-4, on Monday night, sweeping a two-game series from the TCL’s defending champs. East Texas rallied back from a 3-0 first inning deficit to tie the game in the fifth inning, then used a five-run sixth to take control of the game.

Team USA vs Japan on July 14th

The game is set to begin at 5 am eastern time so all you early risers can check out the score before heading to work. You can usually find a link to live stats on the USA Baseball homepage which is available by clicking here.

NOTE: I am not sure if they will be doing live stats for the game.

B.J. Green joins Ga Southern’s Staff

bjgreenSTATESBORO, Ga. – Former Alabama pitching coach B.J. Green joins the Georgia Southern baseball staff. Green, who has over 12 years experience as both a player and coach in the Southeastern Conference, will serve as the pitching coach for the 2009 Southern Conference Champions.

Green served as the pitching coach for seven seasons at the Capstone and helped the Crimson Tide to six NCAA tournament appearances, two SEC Tournament Championships, a 2006 Super Regional Appearance, the 2006 SEC regular season title and the 2002 SEC West championship. The Mid-Atlantic Classic will feature All-Stars from the Cal Ripken, Sr. League taking on their counterparts from the Valley Baseball League in a rare inter-league summer college baseball match-up.

Checking in on New England College Players

They highlight Clemson’s Scott Weismann who enjoyed a successful freshman season which saw him appear in 17 games out of the bullpen while accumulating a 1.23 ERA and holding opponents to a batting average against of .206. College Baseball should remove Metal Bats?

This argument comes up almost every season that college baseball needs to remove metal bats. Today’s argument comes from an article from Thetowntalk.com writer Randy Benson. He states that the college game is broken and to fix the game they should switch over to wood bats. I totally disagree with this as the wood bat games I have attended at the Division 2 level have been absolutely boring and even the summer league games which use wood bats have been awful to watch as balls barely even got to the outfield. Team USA Falls to Japan 7-5

(TOKYO) – Matt Newman (Arizona State) went 3-5 with four RBI for Team USA, but Japan rode a six-run third inning on its way to a 7-5 victory over the U.S., Monday, in the second game of the 37th Annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate Championship in the Tokyo Dome.

Team USA scored two runs in the first inning on Japanese starting pitcher Yuki Saito. Matt Newman (Arizona State) hit an RBI single to centerfield to score Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) from second base and Andy Wilkins singled through the right side to bring in Newman for the early 2-0 lead. Western Major Baseball League Recap for July 13th

Western Major Baseball LeagueThe Okotoks Dawgs continue to lead the West Division with a 22-10 record. The Dawgs lost road games to the Regina Red Sox and the Medicine Hat Mavericks, then won two home games against the Moose Jaw Miller Express, 14-3 and 6-4. The games against Moose Jaw drew crowds of 1,864 and 1,793. In the 6-4 win, the Dawgs scored five runs in the second inning on an RBI double by C Brett Thomas (California), a two-RBI single by 2B Matt Hart (Santa Ana College), an RBI single by RF Anthony Cros (Northwest Oklahoma State), and a sacrifice fly by CF Jeremy Shelby (Grambling State). Cros’ RBI was the winning run, and Marc Wilson (Campbellsville) got the win, his first of the season. Cros leads the team with a .405 batting average, and a .553 on-base percentage. Dan Britton-Foster (British Columbia) is the leading pitcher for the Dawgs, with a record of 3-0, 1.12 ERA. Read the rest of this entry »
