Hargrave WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Wilmington head baseball coach Mark Scalf has announced the addition of former Seahawk standout Daniel Hargrave to his coaching staff for the 2009-10 season.

“We’re excited to have Daniel back in the program as an assistant coach,” said Scalf. “He was a very good player for us and played the game the right way. His experience will be a valuable asset to the younger players in the program.”

Hargrave played briefly in the Philadelphia Phillies organization after being drafted in the 22nd round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft.

“I want to thank UNCW, Coach Scalf, Coach Howell and Coach Hood for giving me this opportunity to return to the program,” said Hargrave. “I’m eager to get started and work on getting the program to Omaha.”

As a player with the Seahawks, Hargrave helped the club to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2006 and 2008, including three 40-win seasons in a four-year span. Hargrave concluded his career ranked among UNCW’s all-time leaders in 14 categories and remains the program’s all-time leader in runs (187) and total bases (429).

In Hargrave’s senior season, UNCW won a school-record 44 games and set a Colonial Athletic Association single-season record with 25 wins.
