McKinney Marshals 4 Victoria Generals 2

Two McKinney Marshals relievers allowed only one hit over 6 and 2/3 innings, and Riley Cooper (Florida) hit a two-run home run as the Marshals edged the Generals 4-2 Friday night in Victoria.

Matt Lackie (Louisiana-Lafayette) pitched 5 and 1/3 innings of releif, allowing only one hit and five walks while striking out four to earn his first win of the season. Dan Gentzler (Maryland) earned his second save in consecutive nights, striking out the only batter he faced and shutting down a Generals rally in the bottom half of the ninth.

Taylor Massey (Weatherford) started the game for the Marshals and threw 3 and 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks while striking out five.

Cooper’s home run came in the top half of the third inning, and proved to be the game-winner as it gave the Marshals a 3-1 lead. Cooper finished the game 1-3 with a run and two RBI.

Jay Morris (New Orleans) and Casey Selsor (UT-San Antonio) both went 2-4 while J.B. Brown (Pacific) added two runs scored to help out in the winning cause.

East Texas Pump Jacks 13 Brazos Valley Bombers 9

Bryan-College Station, TX (July 3, 2009) –

The Brazos Valley Bombers set the TCL Attendance record to the tune of Fireworks Friday, as 1,865 fans witnessed the most spectacular fireworks show in Bombers history. The Bombers battled back and forth with the Pump Jacks all night long, but the Pump Jacks came out on top with a 13-9 victory.

The Bombers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead behind the strong hitting of Alan Harris and Joaquin Hinojosa. Hinojosa electrified the crowd in the third inning with a home run over the left field fence and the Bombers seemed to be sailing smoothly.

The Pump Jacks climbed back into it in the fourth inning, as they scored five runs to pull even at 6-6, as Kennedy Winn suddenly struggled to hit the strike zone. East Texas continued its scoring barrage in the following inning, as they tacked on three more to take a 9-6 lead.

The Bombers were able to cut the deficit to 9-8 in the eighth inning, but East Texas tallied four more in the top of the ninth to provide themselves some insurance. Brazos Valley was able to score one more run in the bottom half of the ninth inning, but the Pump Jacks were able to pitch out of trouble and secure the 13-9 win.

The Bombers will face the Pump Jacks tomorrow in a rematch with game time at 5:05 pm. Immediately following the game, Granger Smith, who sang the famed “We Bleed Maroon,” will be performing at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark. In addition, 300 Bombers pennants will be given away as a part of the first Saturday Giveaway of the season.
