Tyler Junior College’s head baseball coach Jon Groth put in his resignation on Monday. He had spent the last 17 years in charge of the program accumulating 451 wins at the school after he restarted the program in 1992. He also won the National Championship in 2007 which was the first in school history. This is an interesting move as Tyler Junior College was kicked out of the Metro Athletic Conference and would become an independent for the 2010 season. Cape Cod Baseball League Team Previews
The Cape Cod Baseball League is considered the top college summer baseball league and they open up regular season play on June 11th when Cotuit visits Harwich. All the other teams open the season on June 12th, with Falmouth visiting Brewster, Orleans at Yarmouth-Dennis, Wareham at Chatham, and Bourne at Hyannis. 2009 MLB Draft Central
The Major League Baseball Draft takes place today at 6pm Eastern time. The first day of the draft consists of Round One, Compensation Round A, Round Two, Round Three and Compensation Round B. All these rounds will be shown in its entirety on the MLB Network. 2009 MLB Draft Profile: Alex White (UNC)
Alex White is a 6-3 200 pound right handed pitcher out of the University of North Carolina. He entered the season as the second or third best right handed college pitcher. 2009 MLB Draft Profile: Dustin Ackley (UNC)
Dustin Ackley is widely considered the best available college bat available in the 2009 MLB Draft. Ackley is a 6’1 184 pound first baseman right now who could get moved to the outfield at the next level. He currently has a .412 average with 22 homers and 70 RBI. Ackley is also a solid baserunner as he has 13 stolen bases in 17 attempts. I have included a video of Dustin’s swing from a Boston College and North Carolina game this season. 2009 MLB Draft Profile: Mike Minor (Vanderbilt)
Mike Minor is a 6’4 195 pound left handed starting pitcher from Vanderbilt University. He entered the 2009 SEC season as the Commodores number 1 starter where he went 6-6 with a 3.90 ERA.
Yes, those numbers are not that great but he had an outstanding summer with the USA National Team including two victories over the eventual Cuban Olympic Team. He finished the summer with a 3-0 record and a 0.75 ERA in six appearances including five starts. Read the rest of this entry »

Texas advances to CWS with 5-2 win over TCU

AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman Taylor Jungmann allowed two hits over six innings Monday night and top-seeded Texas earned its first trip to the College World Series since 2005 with a 5-2 win over TCU.
Kevin Keyes homered in the first inning for the Longhorns (46-14-1), who have won six national championships. Jungmann struck out five and walked one in picking up his eighth win of the season before being replaced by Austin Wood in the bottom of the seventh. Read the rest of this entry »
CAA Baseball Tournament Returning To UNCW’s Brooks Field

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Colonial Athletic Association has awarded its 2010 and 2011 baseball championships to UNC Wilmington, extending the school’s run of hosting the event to eight consecutive seasons and 10 times overall.

New Omaha stadium gets corporate sponsor
TD Ameritrade apparently has reached an agreement to buy the naming rights for Omaha’s new downtown baseball stadium.
The company and the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority, which will operate the new stadium, are set to announce details of the agreement Wednesday morning, said Doug Parrott, a spokesman for MECA.
The $128 million, 24,000-seat ballpark at 14th and Webster Streets will host the College World Series for the first time in 2011.
NCBWA Announces 2009 Pro-Line Athletic/NCBWA Division I Freshman All-American Teams

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A total of 37 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team, the organization announced today.
The 2009 Pro-Line Athletic NCBWA Freshman All-American Team is comprised from 17 conferences and 10 conference championship teams. The two All-American squads are also made up of 12 conference “Rookie of the Year” winners.
