The final day of my trip to Omaha is coming to a close. We went out to the local stores to get some souvenirs for the trip and I ended up getting a UC-Irvine hat which will go next to my Vanderbilt hat. They had an excellent selection from team’s across the country with even a Lehigh baseball hat available. Who would really buy a Lehigh hat? CWS Game 8: Texas 10 ASU 6

The Texas Longhorns and Arizona State Sun Devils faced off in the nightcap on Day 4 of the College World Series. The Longhorns entered with a 47-14-1 record while the Sun Devils have a 50-12 record. Both teams entered the game with 1-0 records in the College World Series with Texas picking up a 7-6 win over Southern Miss while Arizona State defeated North Carolina 5-2 in ten innings. Each squad would send their ace to the hill with Texas throwing Chance Ruffin who is 10-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 22 appearance (16 starts) while Arizona State put Mike Leake to the hill with a 16-1 record and an ERA of 1.36 in 17 appearances (16 starts). CWS Game 7: UNC 11 Southern Miss 4

The opening game of Day 4 of the College World Series featured the North Carolina Tar Heels playing against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. The Tar Heels entered the game with a 47-17 record while Southern Miss was 40-25. Both teams entered the game with a record of 0-1 with North Carolina losing to Arizona State 5-2 while Southern Miss lost to Texas 7-6. The Golden Eagles sent JR Ballinger to the hill who was 6-3 on the year with a 3.89 ERA in 17 appearances (15 starts). Bryce Harper: Should He Stay Or Should He Go?
The hot topic of the week in baseball is the decision of Las Vegas high school phenom and SI annointed ‘Chosen One’ Bryce Harper and his parents to have Bryce skip the final two years of high school to focus on his baseball career. Bryce’s plan is to earn his GED and then enroll in community college thereby enabling him to become draft eligible for next year’s MLB Draft. Good idea? Bad idea? Decide for yourself. Illini Baseball Sees 4 Sign Pro Contracts

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Former Illini shortstop Brandon Wikoff (Peoria, Ill.), third baseman Dominic Altobelli (Oak Forest) and center fielder Joe Bonadonna (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) all signed or will sign their first professional contracts recently, as Altobelli inked his deal Friday, Wikoff signed on Sunday and Bonadonna will sign his contract Tuesday. In addition, Illinois signee Seth Schwindenhammer (Bartonville, Ill.) signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox on Sunday after being drafted in the fifth round and will begin playing with the rookie-league GCL Red Sox in Florida rather than attending college. CWS Journal with Brian Foley (Day 4)
The College Baseball Blog spent their fourth day in Omaha today. The Blog went back to Zesto’s to try one of their fantastic milkshakes that everyone talks about. The milkshake was fantastic and well worth the walk across the street. They need to stay in business when they move to the new park. CWS Game 6: LSU 9 Arkansas 1
The final game of day 3 in the College World Series sees SEC rivals Arkansas and LSU facing off. Arkansas had a 40-22 record while LSU had a 52-16 record. The Razorbacks sent Brett Eibner to the hill as he is 5-4 with a 4.61 ERA while LSU countered with Louis Coleman who is 13-2 with a 2.74 ERA in 22 appearances (14 starts). Both teams won their opening games of the College World Series with Arkansas beating Cal-State Fullerton 10-6 while LSU beat Virginia 9-5. Read the rest of this entry »
CWS Game 5: Virginia 7 Cal-State Fullerton 5
The third day of action in the College World Series kicks off with Cal State Fullerton taking on the Virginia Cavaliers in an elimination game. Cal-State Fullerton enters with a 47-15 record and an 0-1 record in the CWS after losing to 10-6. Virginia enters with a 48-14-1 record while also being 0-1 in the CWS after losing to LSU 9-5. The Cavaliers sent Robert Morey to the hill as he has a 3-0 record in 17 appearances (8 starts) accumulating a 3.11 ERA while striking out 83 batters in 63.2 innings. Read the rest of this entry »
Texas Collegiate League Players of the Week (June 15th)

With week one of the 2009 Texas Collegiate League season in the books, a trio of players from Victoria, East Texas and McKinney were named Players of the Week. Live Stats for Day 3 of the CWS
The third day of the College World Series will feature an elimination game between Virginia and Cal-State Fullerton at 2pm eastern time. The two teams faced off last year in the Fullerton Regional which was eventual won by the Titans. The second game of the evening will face two SEC rivals with LSU and Arkansas fourth time this season. LSU took two out of three games in Fayetteville.
