2009 Super Regional Sites Announced

INDIANAPOLIS—The eight super-regional hosts were announced today by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.
A minimum of 45 hours of super-regional television will be provided by family of ESPN channels, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Consult local listings for specific games shown in each area of the country. Oxford Regional Final Recap
OXFORD, Miss. — It was a night for heroics as sophomore left-hander Drew Pomeranz pitched a complete-game with a career-high 16 strikeouts to tie the school’s single game record as No. 9 Ole Miss (43-18) defeated Western Kentucky (42-20) by a score of 4-1 on Monday to advance to an NCAA Super Regional in the NCAA Tournament. GREENVILLE, North Carolina- With his team trailing 9-6 in the bottom of the ninth, Devin Harris hit a three-run home run to tie the contest before also delivering the game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th, lifting top-seeded East Carolina to a 10-9 victory over No. 2 seed South Carolina in the Greenville Regional Championship Game Monday evening. A crowd of 5,047 witnessed the contest at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium, representing the fourth-largest single-game attendance in facility and program history. Atlanta Regional Final Recap
ATLANTA – For the first time in ten previous tries Southern Miss won an NCAA Regional and will advance to a NCAA Super Regional with tonight’s 12-8 victory over host Georgia Tech at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Southern Miss was the only number three seed to advance to a super regional while all three Conference USA schools that advanced to regional play (East Carolina, Rice and Southern Miss) won their regional, the first time ever three C-USA teams will play in a super regional in the same year. Willie Stewart Resigns at UNC-Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone has announced today that head baseball coach Willie Stewart is resigning effective June 12.

Interview with Jonathan Johnston
I came across this interesting article about Navy graduate Jonathan Johnston who recently talked with Bus Leagues Baseball about his minor league baseball career. Johnston had a lengthy article written about him back in November about how he was removed from minor league baseball by the Navy and forced to get back into the Navy full-time. PHILADELPHIA (5/31/09) – Temple senior outfielder Sean Barksdale (Glenolden, PA / Cardinal O’Hara) and Villanova junior right-hander Brian Streilein (Staten Island, NY / Brick Memorial) were named the Philadelphia Big Five Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, in voting conducted by the city’s head coaches and sports information offices.
