Here are some of my random thoughts from the first day of action in the College World Series. Some of these things are not good enough to be included in the normal recap.

  • What was up with Cal-State Fullerton starting Noe Ramirez over Daniel Renken in the first game of the CWS? Interesting philosophy that backfired on Coach Dave Serrano.
  • Dallas Kuechel looked really good on the mound even though his final numbers were not outstanding. He really dominated the Titans in the first couple of innings.
  • Bo Bingham of Arkansas is an excellent defensive second baseman just like LSU’s D.J. LeMahieu is fantastic for the Tigers.
  • Virginia really played well on Saturday but the LSU Tigers just had too much pitching tonight with a ton of good hitting.
  • LSU used all three of their starting pitchers on Saturday but Coach Mainieri thinks they will be able to make their scheduled starts on Monday and Wednesday.
  • Our good buddies over at Baseball America have a Video Recap of today’s action which is available by clicking here.
