Atlanta Regional Final Recap

southernmisspileATLANTA – For the first time in ten previous tries Southern Miss won an NCAA Regional and will advance to a NCAA Super Regional with tonight’s 12-8 victory over host Georgia Tech at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Southern Miss was the only number three seed to advance to a super regional while all three Conference USA schools that advanced to regional play (East Carolina, Rice and Southern Miss) won their regional, the first time ever three C-USA teams will play in a super regional in the same year.

Freshman B.A. Vollmuth belted two home runs in a nine-run second inning for Southern Miss, and the Golden Eagles defeated Georgia Tech, 12-8, Monday night to capture the championship of the NCAA Atlanta Regional.
