NAIA National Championship Recap for May 25

Fresno State Wins WAC Tournament

Fresno State’s Jordan Ribera hit a two-run homer in the first game of the day and followed it up with another in the championship as Fresno State defeated New Mexico State 9-7 in game one and 5-3 in the final to claim its fourth-straight WAC Tournament baseball title. Ribera went 2-for-3 in the championship game with two RBI, a home run and two runs scored. Matt Morse picked up the win in the championship after going 2.2 innings without giving up a run. Fresno State receives the WAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Pairings for the tournament will be announced Monday at 12:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

With a little over 12 hours until the NCAA field is announced, let’s take a look at what to expect on Selection Monday.
National Seeds
It would be logical to say that LSU is the favorite to receive the top overall national seed. The Tigers have a top 10 RPI and won both the regular season and conference tournament championships in the toughest conference in the nation. Louisville wins 2009 Big East Title over UConn

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Freshman righty Tony Zych pitched six strong innings on the mound and the offense put up another double-digit performance as the 17th-ranked Louisville baseball team won its second straight BIG EAST Tournament title with an 11-3 triumph over Connecticut on a warm Sunday afternoon at Bright House Field. NCAA Regional Host Sites Announced
The NCAA has released the 2009 regional host sites. The ACC earned four regional hosts: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and North Carolina. Florida, LSU, and Ole Miss will be hosting from the SEC. The Big 12 will have Texas and Oklahoma as hosts, and Conference USA will also have two hosts: Rice and East Carolina. After the end of pool play, Florida State and Virginia were left standing for the ACC title game. The Cavaliers won their pool by posting a perfect 3-0 record, and Florida State went 2-1 in their pool and advanced to the finals via a tiebreaker. DURHAM, N.C. – John Hicks (Fr., Sandy Hook, Va.) hit a two-run single in the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie and lift the No. 14 Virginia baseball team to a 6-3 victory over Florida State in the title game of the ACC Baseball Championship Sunday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. Virginia, the sixth seed, is the lowest seed to ever win the tournament crown after winning four games in four days to earn the ACC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. SEC Tournament Championship Recap (May 24)

After losing their first game of the tournament, LSU battled back to reach the championship game of the SEC Tournament. The Tigers were seeking a conference tournament championship to go along with their regular season co-championship. Josh Spence returns to the mound for Arizona State
Despite a tendon strain in his pitching hand that supposedly ruled him out for the rest of the season, junior transfer Josh Spence got the start for Arizona State on Sunday afternoon against UCLA.
The Aussie was amazing from the rubber earlier this season before the injury caused his ERA to rise from a low around 1.20.
