2009 NCAA Regional Preview: Greenville

East Carolina will host the 2009 Greenville Regional at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The first game of the regional will be between the two seed, South Carolina Gamecocks, and the three seed, George Mason Patriots, at 3 p.m. ET on Friday. The host team and one seed, East Carolina, will then take on Binghamton at 7 p.m ET.
The first elimination game is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, and the winner’s bracket championship will be that night at 6 p.m. ET. The loser’s bracket championship will be Sunday at 2 p.m. ET with the first championship game to follow that evening at 6 p.m. ET. 2009 NCAA Regional Preview: Oxford
Ole Miss will be hosting the Oxford Regional with Missouri (Big 12) as the two seed, Western Kentucky (Sun Belt) as the 3rd seed, and the 4th seed Monmouth (Northeast Conference). Ole Miss was tied for first in the SEC West. While Missouri finish third in the Big 12 and lost to Texas in the Big 12 Tournament Championship game.Western Kentucky was tied for first in the Sun Belt but lost in the semifinal of the Sun Belt Tournament. Monmouth finish fourth in the Northeast Conference but won that Conference Tournament. The winner of the Oxford Regional will be paired up with the winner of the Irvine Regional. 2009 NCAA Regional Preview: Fullerton
While fellow Big West power UC Irvine was dealt an incredibly difficult regional, just 20 minutes away, Cal St. Fullerton was handed what some consider the easiest road to the Super Regionals. The #2 national seed, Fullerton will be joined at Goodwin Field by the SoCon Tournament champs, Georgia Southern, the West Coast Conference champion Gonzaga Bulldogs and the Mountain West Tournament winners, Utah.
The opening game of the regional will be played at 3 pm PDT on Friday and will feature Georgia Southern taking on Gonzaga. The second game of the regional will see Cal St. Fullerton play Utah at 7 pm PDT. The first elimination game is at 2 pm PDT on Saturday, with the winner’s bracket championship game at 6 pm PDT. The second elimination game is at 2 pm PDT on Sunday with the first regional championship game at 6 pm PDT. If necessary, there will be a second regional championship game at 6 pm PDT on Monday.
2009 NCAA Regional Preview: Gainesville
One would presume that a team making its record 37th straight NCAA Regional appearance and that was once ranked No. 2 in the country this season would be the favorite in its regional.
That’s not the case in this year’s NCAA Tournament for Miami (Fla.), which will need to get past Jacksonville, Bethune-Cookman and the eighth-overall seed and favorite Florida to take the Gainesville Region to advance to the Super Regionals. Read the rest of this entry »
2009 NCAA Regional Preview: Irvine
The 2009 Irvine Regional, hosted by the #6 national seed UC Irvine at Anteater Ballpark, is arguably the toughest of the sixteen regionals and will be broadcast live on ESPNU. The ACC Tournament champion Virginia Cavaliers are the regionals number two seed, San Diego St. and superstar Steven Strasburg are seeded third, while defending champion Fresno St. rounds out the field as the fourth seed.
The opening game of the regional will be played at 4 pm PDT on Friday and will feature Virginia taking on San Diego St.’s Steven Strasburg. The second game of the regional will see UC Irvine play Fresno St. at 8 pm PDT. The first elimination game is at 4 pm PDT on Saturday, with the winner’s bracket championship game at 8 pm PDT. The second elimination game is at 4 pm PDT on Sunday with the first regional championship game at 8 pm PDT. If necessary, there will be a second regional championship game at 8 pm PDT on Monday.

2009 NCAA Regional Preview: Clemson
The Clemson Tigers will be hosting a 2009 NCAA Regional which features Alabama as the number 2 seed, Oklahoma State as the third seed, and Tennessee Tech as the four seed. The Tigers enter the tournament with a 40-19 overall record and finished second in the Atlantic Division of the ACC with a 19-11 record. Alabama on the other hand comes into the tournament with a 37-19 record and went 18-11 in the SEC which was good enough for a third place finish in the Western Division. Oklahoma State enters the tournament as the biggest controversy as they finished the season with a ninth place finish in the Big 12 conference which did not qualify them for the Big 12 Tournament. They have an overall record of 32-22 and finished the Big 12 season with a 9-16 record. Tennessee Tech makes the NCAA Tournament after an extra-inning victory over Jacksonville State to win the Ohio Valley Conference. They currently have a 30-22-1 record after going 10-11-1 record. Arizona State is hosting the Tempe Regional for the third straight year after winning its third straight Pac-10 Conference championship. The Oklahoma Sooners will host the 2009 Norman Regional at L. Dale Mitchell Park this weekend. The first game of the regional will be a rematch of opening weekend for Washington State and Arkansas. It was then that the Razorbacks swept the Cougars at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville. After Washington State and Arkansas square off in game one at 1 p.m. CT, host Oklahoma will take the field against the fourth seeded Wichita State Shockers at 7 p.m. CT. The Sooners won both regular season meetings with Wichita State this year by scores of 15-0 and 8-1.
The first elimination game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT and will be followed by the winner’s bracket championship game at 7 p.m. CT. The Rice Owls will host the Houston Regional at Reckling Park after finishing in second place in the Conference USA regular season and winning the Conference USA Tournament title. Kansas State, the two seed, meets Xavier, the three seed, at 2 p.m. CT on Friday. Following that game, host Rice will take the field against Sam Houston State, the four seed. The two teams split during their two regular season meetings, with the home team winning both affairs.
The first elimination game is slated for 2 p.m. CT on Saturday with the winner’s bracket championship to follow at 7 p.m. CT. The loser’s bracket championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, and the first championship game is a 7 p.m. CT start time that same evening.
