In the second day of action at the Austin (Tx) Regional, the elimination game featured a matchup between Army from the Patriot League and Texas State of the Southland Conference. COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After nine years of service, Maryland head baseball coach Terry Rupp has announced his resignation, effective immediately, and a national search for his replacement is underway.

Tempe, AZ – Plenty of hits in the warm desert air on Friday as Cal Poly and Oral Roberts combined to smash 29 hits in the afternoon game, while Kent State and Arizona State bashed an equal 29 hits in the evening match up. TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-Georgia exploded for eight runs in the first inning and rolled to a 24-8 win over Ohio State in game one of the Tallahassee Regional Friday at Dick Howser Stadium.

Lubbock Christian wins NAIA championship

The Lubbock Christian Chaparrals defeated the Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions 11-8 to win their second NAIA title.

The Chaparrals jumped on Sea Lions starter Chris Honer for five runs, including a two-RBI double by 3B Ross Blondin. Honer didn’t complete the first inning. The Sea Lions tied it 5-5 in the top of the third with a two-run home run by 1B Travis McCleary, an RBI double by SS Tyler Kuehl, a sacrifice by by 2B Alex Cameron. However, the Chaps took the lead for good in the bottom of the third on a three-run home run by LF Will Stramp. The winning run came in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by 1B Rob Learned. Irvine, CA- Virginia’s pitching staff outdueled San Diego State phenom Stephen Strasburg as the seventh-ranked Cavaliers notched a 5-1 victory Friday afternoon in the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Irvine Regional at Anteater Ballpark in Irvine, Calif. The Cavaliers recorded two early runs, then rode their pitching before tacking on three runs in the eighth inning against the Aztecs’ bullpen to seal the win and hand Strasburg his first loss of 2009.

The 19 runs scored is a season-high for the Zags and the most ever scored by a Gonzaga squad in an NCAA Tournament game, a span of 22 games.

HOUSTON, Texas – Justin Bloxom went 5-for-5 at the plate with two home runs as 14th-ranked Kansas State cruised to a 16-8 win over Xavier in its first-ever NCAA Regional baseball game Friday afternoon at Reckling Park.

The Wildcats (42-16-1) belted 17 hits against the Musketeers (38-20) as Bloxom, Jordan Cruz (3-for-4), Carter Jurica (2-for-4) and Jason King (2-for-3) led the K-State offense in the opening game of the Houston Regional at Rice University. Read the rest of this entry »
