CBB Visit: Rhode Island at UMass
The College Baseball Blog made the annual trek out to Amherst MA to check out the UMass Minutemen. This trip was even more important as I got a chance to see the Rhode Island Rams who started to make some national noise this season with victories over Oklahoma State, NC State, Miami (FL), and Ohio State. The game featured a pair of lefthanders facing off with UMass giving the ball to Nick Serino while Rhode Island countered with Nick Greenwood. Read the rest of this entry »

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Joe Agreste and freshman left-hander Jonathan Jones had stellar performances to lead the West Virginia University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Cincinnati on Saturday at Hawley Field.
Agreste’s four-RBI effort led the Mountaineers (33-14, 15-8) to a 15-9 victory in a back-and-forth battle in game one, and Jones (6-1) held a powerful Cincinnati offense to just one run on seven hits while striking out seven in 7.1 innings pitched in WVU’s 9-2 win in game two. Game 2: Lafayette 20 Bucknell 9
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette baseball team proved it’s a resilient bunch when the squad rebounded from a game one loss to Bucknell in the Patriot League semifinals to put up 20 runs in a 20-9 game two victory. RALEIGH, N.C. – Adam Warren and Brian Moran combined on a four-hitter as No. 1 North Carolina evened its weekend series with NC State with a 5-2 victory Saturday at Doak Field. CBB Visit: Oregon State defeats Washington 6-4 at Safeco Field

Tanner Robles
The Washington Huskies’ second game this season at Safeco Field in Seattle drew a crowd of 4,296, close to half of them fans of the visiting Oregon State Beavers. They got to see a strong performance by Beaver starter Tanner Robles, who got his first win of the season in his sixth start.
Robles, a left-hander who is back in action after an injury, went 6 1/3 innings, held the Huskies scoreless on two hits and one walk, and threw 77 pitches. Read the rest of this entry »

Lance Loftin went 2-for5 with three runs scored and three RBIs in tonight's win over Nicholls.

SAN MARCOS – Ben Theriot proved to be Texas State’s saving grace Friday night at Bobcat Field, knocking in the game-tying run in the bottom of the ninth before belting a walk-off two-run home run to give the Bobcats an 11-9 extra-inning victory over the Nicholls Colonels.

NAIA sectional tournaments start May 12 at nine locations

The first round of the NAIA Baseball National Championship starts on Tuesday, May 12.
The winners of these nine sectional tournaments go to the national championship in Lewiston, ID May 22-29. The host team, Lewis-Clark State, completes the field.
Here are the locations and the seedings. In each tournament, the #4 and #5 seed play each other on the first day, followed by the #2 vs. #3 seed, and #1 vs. the #4 vs. #5 winner. Read the rest of this entry »
Patriot League Tournament Semifinal Preview

Center Valley, Pa. – The 2009 Patriot League Baseball Tournament opens up this weekend, with No. 4 seed Lafayette visiting No. 1 Bucknell and No. 3 Holy Cross going to No. 2 Army. Both series are best-of-three affairs, with a doubleheader set for Saturday and single game, if necessary, on Sunday. Both series will begin at Noon on Saturday, while game three would be set for Noon at Bucknell and 1 p.m. at Army on Sunday. CBB Visit: #10 Georgia Tech 12, #9 Florida State 3
ATLANTA — Georgia Tech junior first baseman Tony Plagman went 5-for-5 with 4 runs and 3 RBIs to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 12-3 victory over the Florida State Seminoles in game 1 of a crucial ACC series.
Florida State started off the game scoring 3 in the top of the first, with 5 hits including a 2-run homer from junior shortstop Stephen Cardullo. But those were the only runs Florida State were going to get on the night. Read the rest of this entry »
