Greenville Regional- Day 2 Recap

South Carolina moved into the championship round of the Greenville Regional with a 12-2 win over host East Carolina Saturday night at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

The Pirates, who beat Binghamton earlier Saturday, 11-7, in a first-round game postponed from Friday, meet Binghamton again at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the winner advancing to face the Gamecocks at 6 p.m. USC can advance to the Super Regionals with a win either Sunday or Monday night. Clemson Regional- Day 2 Recap

Oklahoma State, which earned an NCAA Tournament bid despite not qualifying for the Big 12 Tournament, was the poster child for those criticizing some omissions/inclusions in the NCAA field.

FULLERTON, CA- Cal State Fullerton senior catcher Dustin Garneau finished 5-for-5 with three runs scored, including the go-ahead run on a Joe Scott single in the sixth, and sophomore right-hander Daniel Renken settled down to strike out six in eight innings of work as the top- seeded Titans defeated third-seeded Gonzaga, 7-4, on Saturday night at Goodwin Field in game four of the 2009 NCAA Baseball Regionals in front of 2,255 fans.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Jimmy Reyes struck out a career-high 14 hitters and allowed just three runs on eight hits in 8.0 innings to lead the 22nd-ranked and second-seeded Elon Phoenix to a 4-3 victory over fourth-seeded Georgia State in an elimination game at the Atlanta Regional of the 2009 NCAA Baseball Championship on Saturday afternoon. HOUSTON – The third-seeded Xavier baseball team captured the program’s first NCAA Tournament win Saturday afternoon, eliminating No. 4 Sam Houston State, 9-6, at Reckling Park in the Houston Regional hosted by Rice University. Junior Neil Lindgren’s two-run homer in the seventh scored the winning run for XU and senior shortstop Jordan Conley closed out the game on the mound for the Musketeers.
