OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The No. 5 Texas Longhorns turned a complete-game effort by Chance Ruffin into a 9-3 win over Kansas Jayhawks in round robin action at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, Texas moved to 1-1 in round robin action and Kansas fell to 0-2. Texas needs a win by Kansas State over Baylor on Thursday evening and a UT win over Kansas State on Saturday to advance to Sunday’s title game.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Lions jumped out to a big lead with seven runs in the first two innings, but it was the bullpen that came up big on Thursday for the Southeastern Louisiana baseball team (36-21, 22-13 Southland Conference) as the Lions held off a rally by the Northwestern State Demons (26-26, 18-15 SLC) to advance to day three of the 2009 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament with a 9-7 win on Wednesday morning.

2009 WAC Tournament Preview

09wacbsbtourneyThe WAC tournament begins today and the six teams that are participating are the six teams that were picked in the preseason to be in Honolulu at the end of the season. However, that’s where the good prognostication ends.

Fresno State, the three time defending regular season, conference tournament and defending national champion was once again picked to win the league but they faltered in the early part of the conference season and nearly missed the conference tournament but used a four game sweep on the final weekend of play to go from 7th place to a tie for third place. Nevada, the team picked to finish third in the league was swept in the final two weekends of play to finish sixth. At one point the Wolf Pack were in first place in the league. WAC Postseason Awards Announced

HONOLULU, HI – The Western Athletic Conference today released its 2009 all-WAC baseball teams and postseason awards as selected by the league’s head coaches.  Fresno State senior third baseman Tom Mendonca was named the Player of the Year and San Jose State senior Ryan Shopshire earned Pitcher of the Year honors. The Freshman of the Year award went to Hawai‘i outfielder Kolten Wong.  San Jose State’s Sam Piraro was named WAC Coach of the Year.

Vanderbilt 4, #2 LSU 1

HOOVER, Ala. ­­— Mike Minor pitched his second complete game victory in three games to lead Vanderbilt to a 4-1 win over No. 2 LSU Wednesday night in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference tournament at Regions Park.

Here is your ACC Tournament Day 1 Recap for May 20th. Miami (FL) picked up a 8-6 victory over Georgia Tech while FSU picked up a 7-2 win over Boston College. In the nightcap, UNC grabbed a 8-3 victory.
