2009 NCAA Regional Preview: Tempe

Winkles Field – Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark will host the 2009 NCAA Tempe Regional May 29 through June 1.  Arizona State is hosting the Tempe Regional for the third straight year after winning its third straight Pac-10 Conference championship.  The Sun Devils received the number 5 national seed after compiling a 44-12 record.

Oral Roberts University is the number two seed after capturing its 12th consecutive Summit League title.  The Golden Eagles compiled a 31-13 record this season.

Cal Poly is making its debut in the NCAA division I baseball playoffs as the number three seed as an at-large selection from the Big-West Conference.  The Mustangs finished the regular season with a 37-19 record and were in third place in the Big-West.

Kent State University claimed the Mid-America Conference tournament championship and earned the number four seed.  A 42-15 record was compiled by the Golden Flashes during the regular season.

Games in Tempe begin on Friday with Oral Roberts and Cal Poly playing the afternoon game at 2:00 PM.  Arizona State and Kent State will finish off the first day with the evening game getting underway at 7:00 PM.  Each round of the playoffs features a double elimination style tournament.
