NORMAN, Okla. — The No. 13 Sooners hit three home runs en route to a 6-5 victory over No. 16 Texas A&M during Friday’s series opener in front of 1,236 fans at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

J.T. Wise’s 17th home run of the year, a two-run blast in the fifth inning, gave OU a 6-4 advantage as Ryan Duke recorded his 13th save of the season.

The win was the 500th of head coach Sunny Golloway’s career and improved OU’s overall mark to 38-16 and to 15-10 in Big 12 play. With two regular season games left to play, the Sooners are in third place in the conference standings behind Kansas State (14-9-1) and ahead of Missouri (16-11) and Texas A&M (14-11).

“We’ve told our guys all year that five was the number. “If we can keep them to five or less and we can score five or more, we’ll win,” said Golloway who is 165-94-1 at OU.

#23 Kansas State 4 Kansas 1

MANHATTAN, Kan. – A Tointon Family Stadium record crowd of 4,280 saw Kansas State’s A.J. Morris toss his fourth complete game of the season as the 11th-ranked Wildcats took game one of a three-game Big 12 Conference series against rival Kansas, 4-1, Friday night.

With the win, Kansas State earned its school-record 14th conference win and moved to 39-13-1 overall and 14-9-1 in Big 12 play. Kansas fell to 35-19 overall and 13-12 in conference action.

The Wildcats surpassed the 2002 squad for the most conference wins in school history, which went 13-13 en route to its first Big 12 tournament appearance. Friday’s win also marked a school-record eighth-straight victory over the Jayhawks.

Morris (12-1) allowed KU’s only run in the third inning on Buck Afenir’s sacrifice fly, but was dominant the rest of the way. The right-hander sat down the Jayhawks in order in five of the final six innings, with KU only threatening in the eighth when Morris worked out of a jam with runners at first and third.

Nebraska 10 Baylor 4

Lincoln – DJ Belfonte and Adam Bailey both homered in a three-run first inning, as Nebraska erupted for 10 runs and 16 hits in a 10-4 victory over Baylor Friday night.

Belfonte belted Nebraska’s first leadoff homer in 379 games and made a sensational diving catch in center in the sixth inning, while Bailey keyed the Husker offense with a career-high four hits, including his third homer in as many games, and drove in three runs.

It proved to be the Huskers night early on, as Belfonte opened the bottom of the first with a solo homer to right center, marking the first leadoff homer by a Husker since April of 2003. NU struck early, as four of the first five hitters had base hits against Baylor starter and loser Kendal Volz (3-6).

Texas Tech 9 Oklahoma State 8

LUBBOCK, Texas – Senior second baseman Willie Rueda scored on a two-out fielding error by Oklahoma State shortstop Tom Belza in the ninth to lift Texas Tech to a 9-8 win over the Cowboys in the series opener at Dan Law Field.

The win coupled with Nebraska’s 10-4 victory over Baylor gives the Red Raiders a solid grip on seventh place in the Big 12 Standings as they improve to 12-13 (24-28 overall). Oklahoma State was officially eliminated from the Big 12 Championship as they dropped to 7-16 in the league and to 30-22 overall.

With the scored tied at eight and runners at first and second, senior first baseman Chris Richburg hit what should have been a routine fly ball to shallow center field to end the inning. Oklahoma State shortstop Tom Belza, however, watched the ball go in and out of his glove for the first error of the night by the Cowboys and that turned out to be the winning run as Rueda scored easily from second.
