LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior Caleb Cotham threw a complete-game four-hit shutout to lead Vanderbilt to a 6-0 win over Middle Tennessee in an elimination game Sunday afternoon at Patterson Stadium.

Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year

Tempe, AZ – Saturday afternoon’s elimination game between Cal Poly and Kent State continued the hit parade and actually did two better than Friday, as the two teams combined for 31 hits.  But although the Mustangs tallied one more hit, the Golden Flashes held on for a 10 to 9 victory.

In the evening’s winner bracket game things changed and pitching ruled the night, as the nations best pitcher faced off against the Summit League’s Pitcher of the Year and Oral Roberts perfect ace Mark Serrano.  But Mike Leake was once again masterful from the dish for Arizona State, as he tied a career high with 15 strikeouts and was a fluke hit away from his third complete game shutout.  ASU was victorious in the end 4 to 1, and will now await the results of Sunday afternoon Kent State versus Oral Roberts elimination game.

Irvine Regional- Day 2 Recap

Recapping the action from the Irvine Regional at Anteater Ballpark on Saturday.

Virginia- 5, UC Irvine- 0

IRVINE, CA- Danny Hultzen (Fr., Bethesda, Md.) pitched a masterful 7.1 shutout innings and the Virginia offense broke through for five runs in the fifth and sixth innings as the Cavaliers shut out top-ranked UC Irvine, 5-0, Saturday night at the 2009 NCAA Irvine Regional at Anteater Ballpark in Irvine, Calif. UCI is the top seed in the regional and the No. 6 national seed, while UVa is the No. 2 seed in the regional.

Texas defeats Boston College in Record-breaking fashion

texasbcshakinghandsThe longest college baseball game in the history of the sport took place tonight on the sport’s biggest stage in the NCAA Tournament. Boston College dropped a 3-2 decision to Texas in 25 innings. The 25 innings are not the story of the game as Austin Wood of Texas pitched 13.0 innings in relief while not allowing a single hit for 12.1 innings. He also struck out 14 Boston College batters. NORMAN, OK- The No. 21 Arkansas Razorback baseball team pounded out a season high 20 hits including three or more from Ben Tschepikow, Scott Lyons, Andy Wilkins and James McCann to remain undefeated in the NCAA Norman Regional with a 17-6 victory over the No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners at L. Dale Mitchell Stadium in Norman, Okla., Saturday night.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Ohio State defeated Marist, 6-4, in an NCAA Tallahassee Regional elimination game behind key hits from Michael Arp and Ryan Dew and flawless work out of the bullpen.
