Sophomore Matt Crocker picked up a pair of wins out of UTSA's bullpen last week.

FRISCO — Sophomore left-handed reliever Matt Crocker was tabbed the Southland Conference’s Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Crocker continued his stellar work out of UTSA’s bullpen last week, recording a pair of wins in the weekend series sweep at Nicholls. The Kingwood native tossed two perfect innings and struck out two in Friday’s 5-1 11-inning victory. He followed that performance with two more scoreless frames in Sunday’s 6-5 come-from-behind win. The southpaw fanned three in addition to allowing a hit and walking one batter in the Roadrunners’ 13th comeback victory of the season.

NCBWA Apr. 27 Division I Poll

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 12th year with its 2009 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will be circulated from Feb. 23-June 25 following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.

The poll voters come from 30 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. This week’s poll has representation by 11 different conferences among the 302 baseball-playing schools in the 2009 NCAA Division I ranks. Sawyer earns Player of the Week honors after leading SDSU to a 7-1 record, including a four-game sweep of WIU. He homered in six of the eight games and hit safely in all eight. For the week, Sawyer had a .500 average, scored 19 runs, had 15 RBI, 14 hits, nine home runs and two doubles. He also walked seven times, had a 1.536 slugging percentage and .641 on-base percentage. Big Ten Baseball Players of the Week

Argo led the Fighting Illini as they swept Penn State on the road and claimed a share of the Big Ten lead. The freshman went 8-for-12 with multiple hits in each game against the Nittany Lions, also posting eight RBI while scoring six runs and knocking five extra-base hits, including a multi-homer effort on Saturday. The designated hitter opened the weekend with a 3-for-4 performance, scoring and driving in three runs while falling a single shy of the cycle in Illinois’ 7-3 win. On Saturday, he again went 3-for-4, this time driving in five runs and scoring two on a pair of homers as his squad earned the 11-5 victory. In the series finale on Sunday, Argo went 2-for4 with a run as his team earned the sweep in a 9-2 win. In the three-game series, the freshman hit .667 with a .692 on-base percentage and a slugging average of 1.667, giving him an OPS of 2.359. Spencer had at least two hits and homered in every games last week as the Falcons won their series wtih Miami and went 3-1 on the week. Spencer was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and three runs scored in non-league win over Toledo. He was 4-for-4 with two solo home runs and four runs scored in the series opener with Miami.
