Blowout of the Day: Charlotte pounds NC A&T 31-1

Beanpot First Round Recap

The first round of the Baseball Beanpot took place today with Northeastern taking on Harvard and Umass playing Boston College. Northeastern in the first game hammered Harvard behind a 18 hit husky attack which saw them walk away with a 16-5 victory. UMass scored three runs over the final two innings to break a 2-2 tie and advance to the Beanpot Championship game with the 5-2 victory. The championship game on Monday will see Boston College face off against Harvard in the Consolation game while Northeastern will play UMass in the Championship game at Fenway Park. NCBWA Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 5, today. Eastern Illinois senior outfielder Brett Nommensen was named National Hitter of the Week, while Michigan State senior right-handed pitcher Nolan Moody was named National Pitcher of the Week. Mississippi College junior outfielder Bo Bell (Gulfport,MS / Miss. Gulf Coast CC) went 9-for-15 with four home runs, two doubles and 16 RBIs to pace a 5-0 week that included an East Division sweep of East Texas Baptist. Bell, who takes the division’s top weekly hitting award for the second time this season, walked four times and scored 11 runs.

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 9 Texas Longhorns received a strong pitching performance to stymie the No. 19 TCU Horned Frogs, 6-0, in Tuesday night action at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Texas (21-8) broke the scoring seal with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Connor Rowe led off the inning with a double to left field and advanced to third on Travis Tucker’s bunt single and scored on Michael Torres’ single to left center. With no outs in the inning, the bats weren’t silenced yet, as Brandon Belt laced a single to right field to plate Tucker.

Ivy League Players of the Week

Senior Robert Papenhause (Hillsborough, Calif.) enjoyed a terrific week while leading the Bears to a 5-1-1 record. After hitting a solid 5-for-10 in three non-league games early in the week, Papenhause really got going in league play over the weekend, recording seven hits in 11 at bats for a stellar .636 average. In the four games against Penn and Columbia, Papenhause also scored five runs, drove in 11, and had four home runs. His offense helped spark the Bears, who averaged 12 runs per game while running their league record to 7-1, currently second in the Ivy League. Read the rest of this entry »

Southeastern Louisiana and Texas State are tied atop of the Southland Conference standings, but the tie will be broken this weekend in San Marcos, Texas, when the two meet. All six conference series will be played Thursday through Saturday to give the teams a day off on Easter. Lamar has won five in a row to move into a tie for third with Sam Houston State and UT Arlington. The Cardinals and Bearkats meet Saturday in Huntsville, while the Mavericks play host to McNeese State. Other weekend matchups pit Stephen F. Austin at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Northwestern State at UTSA and Central Arkansas at Nicholls State.

Fordham vs Williams a 150 year Rivalry Renewed

They have won 4,010 games while the second place Texas Longhorns are nearly 900 victories behind with 3,117.
